Job Description

Job Purpose

  • The main purpose of the Technical Supervisor’s job is to provide expert guidance and direct support to vessels’ management on all matters related to maintenance, repair and vessel performance

Accountability

  • Assesses and reports the technical conditions for an assigned group of vessels in the fleet
    • Ensures that vessel meets all statutory and regulatory certifications and any additional requirements of the clients
    • Schedules and supervises planned and unplanned repairs, inspections and dry dockings
    • Leads the dry docking planning process, ensures work indent is prepared and approved, procures needed spare parts, and liaises with shipyard for docking preparation
    • Evaluates and audits the identified shipyards prior to docking implementation
    • Attends vessels’ dry docking at shipyards, ensures proper work execution, and liaises with the Head Office for reporting and support
    • Oversees the class status of the vessel and accordingly arranges needed surveys
    • Investigates and identifies actual and potential technical causes of loss and proposes corrective and/or preventive action
    • Carries out vessel(technical) inspections
    • Provides assistance during SOLAS, CLASS and other mandatory surveys
    • Ensures that all repairs to the vessels are carried out timely and in a cost effective manner
    • Maintains and updates proper records of vessel reports and inventories
    • Manages supplies spare parts and vessel’s provision including supplier selection
    • Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by his/her direct manager
    • Completes and implements all required documentation to support the workshop activities including damage reports, repair procedures, quality tests and results, completion reports, additional work reports, etc.
    • Tracks KPIs for his function and devises plans and initiatives for operational improvements

Communications and Working Relationships

  • Coordinates with Port Engineer on all the technical requirements of the vessels
    • Interfaces with Fleet & Technical Superintendent on vessel technical management and conditions

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in marine engineering, engineering science or equivalent
    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the marine sector, with a minimum of 5 years as an Operations Superintendent or Technical Superintendent in a comparable operation
    • Extensive crisis management skills, and ability to work well under pressure and to act quickly and decisively
    • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communications, and management skills
    • Knowledge of ISM and ISPS and other relevant codes
    • Computer literacy, including knowledge of MS office applications and basic software applications. ERP knowledge is a plus
    • Previous experience in the GCC is a plus, especially if the experience was in Saudi Arabia
    • English fluency is required; Arabic language is a plus

HSE Responsibilities

  • Complies with established health and safety guidelines and procedures and ensures the health, safety and welfare of self and others
    • Identifies and reports to management any Health, Safety or Environmental risks and makes suggestions to address these risks
