Job Description
The Medical Billing Intern will be part of team whose primary role is in claims processing, analysis, and reimbursement for health care providers for Auto and Worker's Compensation bills. The Intern will ensure that all assigned claims have accurate information and are submitted and reimbursed timely and appropriately. The Legal Intern will be part of team whose primary role is working PIP demands and reviewing insurance company payout per CPT code.

Hours: 24 - 40 hours - depends on work load and schedule of candidate
Qualifications
- Experience in a medical claims for auto and/or workers compensation billing
- Experience with EMR Management software
- Experienced and comfortable with calling insurance companies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills as you will be speaking with clients and/or insurance representatives daily.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel
- Effective time management abilities
- Must maintain HIPAA standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and professional
- Strong customer service orientation
- Excellent organizational skills and must be detailed oriented
- Strong computer and typing skills
- Outstanding listening skills
- Positive, friendly, approachable disposition
- Ability to work with multiple priorities
Experience is always prime, but not necessarily needed - very open to bringing on an entry-level individual who is willing to learn and work hard at understanding these processes.
Additional Information
MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain, verify and document all claim and insurance benefit information
- Submitting accurate/clean claims to insurance carriers for payment, including coordinating benefits with multiple insurance carriers
- Reviewing claim payments for proper reimbursement, appealing underpaid or denied claims
- Knowledge of insurance, especially PI, PIP, rules and guidelines
- Work closely with attorneys, insurance adjusters, payors and providers to clarify billing issues
- Prepare reports and forms as directed an in accordance with established policies
- Perform a variety of administrative duties including but not limited to: answering phone; outbound and inbound calls, faxing and filing of confidential documents
- Adhere to all practice policies related to HIPAA and Medicare Compliance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- MUST be able to use a landline telephone/phone through PC software to speak to patients, clients, insurance companies and/or assigned by senior management. ‘
- MUST be able to verbally speak without accommodations – face to face, through landline, through PC phone and/or other means required to perform job duties.
- MUST be able to view computer screens for the duration of your work shift.
- Continuous sitting throughout the work shift
- Repetitive movements of hands, fingers and arms for typing and/or writing during work shift
- Must be able to work standard office equipment: computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
