ProSidian Seeks a On-Call Industrial Hygiene Technician - Construction/Industrial Hygiene (IH103) as an Engagement Team Member generally located across the Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina supporting Environmental Management Sector requirements to support an engagement for a liquid waste contractor (Savannah River Remediation [SRMC]) at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC, which is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy..
**RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES - On-Call Industrial Hygiene Technician - Construction/Industrial Hygiene (IH103)**
- Provide on-call Industrial Hygiene Field Technician support for Kiewit's construction activities at DOE-SRS, conducting comprehensive field evaluations to identify and assess heat strain, chemical, dust, fume, noise, and other physical or chemical hazards.
- Execute personal breathing-zone and area monitoring for respirable crystalline silica, total dust, welding fumes, stainless-steel welding constituents, metals, and hexavalent chromium as directed, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
- Conduct personal noise dosimetry and area sound-level surveys during demolition, cutting, drilling, grinding, fabrication, welding, equipment installation, and powered-tool operations, maintaining detailed records of employee, task, material, control, location, duration, weather, and PPE information.
- Prepare and maintain sampling media with proper chain-of-custody documentation; perform pre- and post-calibration of pumps and instruments; verify flow and pump operation throughout work shifts; and respond promptly to field conditions that could compromise sample integrity.
- Deliver or ship media to designated laboratories while maintaining comprehensive sampling, calibration, custody, and shipment records; prepare field summaries and technical reports for distribution to workers, supervision, management, the Industrial Hygienist/CIH, and other stakeholders.
- Support follow-up monitoring initiatives when work methods, materials, engineering controls, crews, shifts, or exposure conditions change, ensuring continuous compliance with Federal, State, Company, project, and Site requirements.
- Escalate conditions requiring Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) interpretation or corrective action, communicating findings and recommendations professionally to all relevant parties.
Qualifications
Desired Qualifications For On-Call Industrial Hygiene Technician - Construction/Industrial Hygiene (IH103) (IH103) Candidates:
- Current SRS badge and applicable site qualifications, subject to confirmation of sponsor, training currency, access, and work-zone authorization. At least three years of hands-on On-Call Industrial Hygiene Technician or field-sampling experience, with demonstrated personal air sampling, pump calibration, media handling, chain-of-custody, laboratory-shipment, noise-dosimetry, and field-documentation experience.
- Working knowledge of industrial hygiene exposure-assessment principles and applicable OSHA/NIOSH sampling practices. Experience with respirable silica, total dust, construction noise, welding fumes, stainless-steel welding, metals, and hexavalent chromium is preferred. Ability to recognize when different hazards require different media and analytical methods.
- Operational knowledge of computer databases and Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently in active construction areas, coordinate with craft and supervision, wear required PPE, follow work controls, and maintain professional treatment of worker-exposure information.
Education / Experience Requirements / Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience pathway 1: Three or more years of On-Call Industrial Hygiene Technician, occupational exposure-monitoring, or comparable field-sampling experience.
- Experience pathway 2: Five or more years troubleshooting or repairing mechanical equipment or electronics, accompanied by documented industrial hygiene sampling training and demonstrated competency with pumps, instruments, media, calibration, documentation, and chain of custody.
- Current SRS badge is required for the intended rapid-mobilization model; badge status alone does not confirm sponsor, training currency, project-area access, or Contractor-Controlled Construction Zone authorization. Specific certifications, medical qualifications, citizenship/security conditions, and required training modules are TBD pending task-order and Site confirmation.

Ancillary Details Of The Roles
- Engagement model: Two-year, on-call field support; exact start and end dates TBD. Routine notice is expected one to three weeks before a task. Urgent needs may require mobilization within several days. Typical field assignments are one to two weeks and may extend to three or four weeks.
- Hours: No guaranteed minimum is stated. Plan for 30-50 hours per active week, 80-160 hours in a typical intermittent month, and up to 160-200 hours in a heavy month. A full-shift monitoring event commonly requires 10-12 billable hours including access, briefing, calibration, sampling, post-calibration, documentation, custody, and shipment. Overtime requires advance authorization.
- Work setting: Active construction areas at DOE-SRS near Aiken, South Carolina. The technician must be able to wear required PPE, remain in the field for full shifts, handle sampling equipment and media, and work around demolition, fabrication, welding, equipment installation, and powered tools.
- Industrial hygiene need: Demolition and concrete disturbance may require silica and total-dust monitoring; fabrication and powered-tool work may require noise monitoring; carbon-steel welding may require welding-fume and metals evaluation; and stainless-steel welding may require separate chromium, nickel, and hexavalent-chromium sampling. A total-dust or silica sample does not by itself characterize every welding-fume constituent.
- Work will be performed under an approved sampling strategy and technical direction from the Industrial Hygienist or CIH. Remote CIH support may include sampling-plan review, method/media selection, data validation, result interpretation, corrective-action recommendations, and technical-report review.
- Available technician and CIH names: TBD. Confirm equipment provider, designated laboratory, analytical methods, reporting limits, turnaround times, shipment method, badge sponsor, Site training, medical/PPE requirements, project-area access, reporting format, work schedule, cancellation terms, and actual mobilization date before authorization to proceed.
