Job Description
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant Gynaecologist to join its dynamic and ambitious team. This is a replacement consultant post that seeks to enhance the provision of specialist Gynaecology Oncology care at the Hospital. The post holder will be registered as holding CCT including gynaecology oncology on the GMC register or be within six months of achieving this . The role involves weekly gynaecology oncology outpatient clinics, operating, rapid access PMB and colposcopy sessions as well as MDT sessions.
The remit of the post holder is to join the current team of three gynaecological oncologists (one of whom is part time) with support from clinical nurse specialists and a sub-speciality trainee. The post holder would be expected to be competent in open, laparoscopic and vaginal surgery for gynaecological malignancy and have proven and extensive acute gynaecology experience.
The successful candidate will be joining a wider group of 25 consultants providing general and specialised obstetrics and gynaecology services to the population of East Hampshire and neighbouring areas. The post will be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. The job plan will initially be based on ten programmed activities and will include participation in the gynaecology on-call rota on a 1:7 basis (medium intensity).
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has 5 DaVinci surgical robots and a well-established cross speciality surgical robotic program. Gynaecology Oncology is actively involved in this programme and the new appointee would be invited to help further develop the programme if desires.
The department also provides clinical support for St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, and for ovarian cancer surgery for Reading Hospital. Multidisciplinary team meetings occur weekly with fortnightly inter-disciplinary meeting between colorectal and urology surgeons and specialised bowel radiology.

Essential
- Full GMC registration
- On the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of receiving CCT in Gynaecology Oncology
- MRCOG or equivalent approved by PMETB
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Completion of RCOG subspecialty in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent.
- Candidate must demonstrate extensive skills and experience in the laparoscopic and open surgical management of Gynaecology Oncology and acute gynaecological emergencies.
- BSCCP accredited Colposcopist or completed indirect supervised cases and eligible for the OSCE examination
Clinical Skills
Essential
- Knowledge, Clinical and Technical skills to provide a Consultant Service in Gynaecology Oncology

- Gynaecological ultrasound

- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of a safe service
