Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance of the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package (the “Project”).

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews to undertake major works. The Project is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

What is the Project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

The Legal Counsel will.

Under the supervision of Senior Legal Counsel and/or Deputy Legal Counsel, the selected candidate will support the Project team, Senior Legal Counsel and Deputy Legal Counsel on various legal and contractual matters including, but not limited to:

  • drafting, negotiating, and reviewing subcontracts and template documents in collaboration with the Procurement department;
  • advising the Project team in respect of matters relating to the Project Agreement, Design and Construction Contract and Credit Agreement;
  • advising the Project team on legal risk;
  • provide Construction Act legal advice;  
  • supporting the management of subcontractor litigation and other dispute resolution proceedings;
  • ensuring compliance with applicable insurance requirements in collaboration with commercial and insurance teams;
  • providing support to the access team in respect of property and permit matters;
  • advising the contract management team in respect of administration of contracts being performed (including design agreements and subcontracts);
  • drafting and reviewing correspondence in support of Project Agreement variations and claims in collaboration with the commercial and contract management teams; and
  • conducting legal research and drafting memoranda.

Qualifications

  • 3-6 years of experience in construction litigation or construction counsel roles;
  • experience on P3 and other large complex construction projects is a significant asset;
  • experience with dispute resolution is an asset;
  • experience in drafting and negotiating construction contracts is an asset;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills; 
  • intellectual curiosity and great commercial judgment; 
  • the ability to establish and maintain strong relationships and trust with all stakeholders; and
  • strong inter-personal skills, including resiliency.
