Job Description
Imagine having a true work-life balance living in the stunning region of Otago. Our Macraes Open Pit Geology team are on the hunt for a Senior Geologist. This is a drive in, drive out opportunity from nearby Dunedin or Oamaru, each with stunning landscapes, adventures and beaches to explore! For the more adventurous, Queenstown is just a 3 hour drive, offering endless amounts of exciting activities (skiing, hiking, water sports, fishing and more) to enjoy on your days off.
Working an 8 days on, 6 days off daytime only roster, this role will ensure day to day geology resources are optimised (including contractor drilling activities) to meet the mining schedule by providing geological and grade control input into the short, medium and long-term schedules to maximise ore recovery and gold production.
As a senior, this position will help mentor more junior geologists, passing down knowledge and experience. Reporting to the Geology Superintendent, training and professional development will be provided to ensure efficient and effective performance of duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure best practice techniques are used for defining the ore zone, minimising dilution
- Provide regular updated and accurate resource and geological models
- Complete monthly reconciliations
- Supervise and review GC models and ore blocking
- Understand the procedures and processes involved with managing people and apply them appropriately to different situations
- Share wisdom, knowledge and experience with team to encourage increased performance
- Provide leadership and coaching to establish a strong culture of continuous improvement
- Coach, support and develop the team to build knowledge and skills to provide coverage and to build succession plans
- Build and maintain effective relationships in order to retain a high-performance workforce through engagement, communication and motivation.
Qualifications
- A degree in geology is essential. Honours or postgraduate qualification would be highly regarded
- Full and Current Driver Licence. Ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred
Experience
- More than eight years postgraduate experience, with developed skills in a production or exploration environment is preferred
- Previous open pit and/or underground knowledge is essential
- Previous experience in a supervisory role well regarded
- A solid practical understanding of geostatistical theory
- Advanced computer literacy including experience in mining software and databases essential
