Job Description

The Senior Andrologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare. This role adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Senior Andrologist is primarily responsible for performing andrology testing and laboratory procedures, including semen analysis, sperm preparation for intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF), semen cryopreservation, and processing and cryopreservation of testicular sperm extraction (TESE) tissue. In addition, the Senior Andrologist is also responsible for performing fertilization assessments, embryo growth assessments, patient messaging, IVF dish labeling, and shipments.

Other responsibilities include performing quality control activities, coordinating patient appointments, documenting and interpreting laboratory results, communicating results in a timely manner, managing laboratory inventory, and maintaining cryostorage systems. The Senior Andrologist may also assist with other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform andrology laboratory testing and procedures, including semen analysis and strict morphology evaluation.
  • Process semen, epididymal fluid, and testicular tissue, including preparation and cryopreservation.
  • Assist in intraoperative evaluation of reproductive tissue (e.g., epididymal fluid and testicular tissue), including timely processing and cryopreservation.
  • Perform embryo fertilization and embryo quality assessments.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling for laboratory tests and procedures; respond to appointment inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Accurately document, interpret (as appropriate), and report test results to ordering physicians and the laboratory director in a timely manner.
  • Send patient messages regarding IVF cycle information.
  • Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential patient records in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine inventory checks and order supplies and equipment necessary for laboratory operations.
  • Monitor and maintain cryostorage tanks; promptly respond to alarms or abnormal conditions and escalate issues as needed.
  • Notify the laboratory director of patient or physician inquiries regarding laboratory services, particularly urgent requests (e.g., oncology fertility preservation cases).
  • Perform daily quality control procedures and ensure compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Participate in specimen shipments.
  • Support additional laboratory or operational responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science (medical technology).

Preferred:

  • Experience in human or animal assisted reproductive technology (ART) laboratory settings.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience.
  • Experience with sterile/aseptic laboratory techniques
