Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Ika Tauhou Terminal Operator Cadet

  • Full-time

Company Description

Z has a clear purpose: Powering better journeys, today and tomorrow. As one of New Zealand’s largest transport energy companies, we have a commitment to delivering safe, secure, and reliable transport energy – with the opportunity to deliver new journeys, with new energy solutions in a changing world.

We are proud to be the Kiwi contingent in the Ampol Group, an independent Trans-Tasman energy company, with trading offices across the globe, which are united behind our shared purpose. While many of the challenges and opportunities we face go beyond national boundaries, together we have the scale, influence, and capability to deliver for our customers, communities, and our people.

Job Description

We are excited to look for our next Ika Tauhoua Cadet at Z and support you into a career as a Ringahāpai Tumu Herenga Waka Terminal Operator! Our cadetship program at Z is an 18 month opportunity before moving into a permanent role as a Terminal Operator.

So, what is a Terminal? Terminals are where our stocks of petrol and diesel are received from ships and then pumped into large storage tanks. Trucks then load at the Terminal and deliver to Service Stations and Truck Stops to meet the energy needs of our customers.

A typical day working at a Z Terminal might see you recording stock movements, carrying out Safety and Wellbeing tasks, taking fuel samples to check the quality and more.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills, work towards NZQA unit standards and build your career. You will join a skilled and supportive team committed to creating a safe environment, sharing knowledge and supporting your development.

You will have the opportunity to

  • Work in a close-knit team at the Terminal
  • Learn and comply with Safety and Wellbeing policies, standards and procedures
  • Combine practical work with learning
  • Learn how to complete maintenance activities and record these in Z’s maintenance system
  • Provide administrative support with the day-to-day running of the Terminal
  • Work in a full time permanent role with a career pathway

Qualifications

What you’ll bring to Z

  • A good level of communication and literacy skills, NCEA Level 1 or equivalent
  • The flexibility to work both inside an office and outside at a Terminal
  • A practical and hands-on nature
  • Computer literate with the ability to learn new systems
  • Capable of passing regular medicals
  • The ability to get to work at varying hours, either a full driver's licence and car or support with your transport
  • A good work ethic and the commitment to take on a new challenge!

And of course, you’ll be passionate about what matters to Z, embracing and living our values to help us deliver on our aspirations and broader commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people in minority communities are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single requirement. At Z we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
