Job Description
- Join a multifaceted team that covers Cath Lab.
- The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will be trained to cover all aspects of Cath Lab responsibilities.
- The APP will be trained to cover all roles on the heart and vascular team.
- The APP will have the opportunity to cross cover other APP lead service lines.
- Performs routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's delegation agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing. Under the direction of a physician, the APP will:
- Use evidenced based interventions and best practice guidelines in planning patient care.
- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients.
- Obtain medical histories, examines patients, rounds daily, orders and interprets tests, makes initial diagnoses, and orders treatments.
- Establishes medical diagnosis based on history, assessment, and diagnostic findings.
- Initiates protocols/clinical pathways, evaluates the plan of care ensuring timely intervention.
- Design, order, and document appropriate treatment plans/plans of care.
- Consider the holistic needs of patients and orchestrates resources (i.e. Pain service, palliative care).
- Specific Cath Lab roles and responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
- Coordinating pre- and post-op care and management for cardiovascular cath lab patients,
- Prepares charts for upcoming cases,
- Facilitating patient admissions, when appropriate,
- Conducting post-op-day one follow-up phone calls.
- Assisting in Cath lab procedures when needed.
- Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.
- Administer therapeutic procedures such as difficult/ US guided peripheral IV line placement.
- Performs invasive procedures such as Central and Arterial lines, removal of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump.
- Demonstrates competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and competency in required subspecialty.
- Completes at least 50 hours of Category I CME every two years
- Performs according to Maryland Board of Physician or Board of Nursing standards and expanded job description procedural protocols.
- Maintains a procedure complication rate less than the national average.
- Facilitates excellence in quality assurance and the delivery of patient care as part of our High Reliability Organization.
- Provides optimal quality of patient care while following safety guidelines,
- Contributes to cohesive group relations; uses open communication to resolve problems in and between departments.
- Demonstrates commitment to professional department and organizational core values.
- Communicate effectively with attending physicians, other medical teams, and team members.
- Follows Capital Region Health’s High Reliability Organization principles of patient safety, zero harm, professionalism, and mutual respect for patients, families, and coworkers.
- Participates in APP Council meetings, Neuroscience team meetings, APP and Neuroscience team educational opportunities, and other learning opportunities as they arise.
- Engages in leadership activities including but not limited to APP representation on committees, training and education of other APPs, or specific event or team
Qualifications
- PAs: Bachelor’s degree, graduation from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, and certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician’s Assistants are required. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
- NPs: Bachelor’s degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree. Candidate must hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- One year of cath lab or cardiology experience is preferred.
- Credentialing must be obtained from UM Capital Region Health’s Medical Staff Office and maintenance of BLS /ACLS certification is required.
- Salary is commensurate with clinical experience.
