Job Description

Twitter is a world-wide communications platform that is changing how people interact and communicate at home and at work. The Twitter @Policy team focuses on public policy issues posed by the continuing spread of digital technology and web-based communications services around the world. These issues range from freedom of expression, online safety, inclusion, building trust, privacy, and Internet freedom. The @Policy team also manages and directs Twitter’s corporate social responsibility work in the markets we serve. Our #TwitterforGood efforts involve working directly with NGOs active in the areas of digital inclusion, freedom of expression, online safety and security, women and minorities in tech, emergency services/disaster recovery, and countering violent extremism.

Public Policy Fellowship is a paid year long program (12 months) designed for recent graduates or young professionals in their first few years of work, who want to learn more, and help with, Twitter’s approach to public policy challenges in India. 

What you will do:

As a Public Policy Fellow, you’ll be responsible for monitoring public policy issues and conducting key research into pressing tech policy issues related to Twitter and our users in global markets.

#TwitterForGood: You’ll work with NGOs on increasing Twitter’s engagement, helping to coordinate our global #TwitterForGood days of service, and other corporate social responsibility initiatives such as our pro bono #AdsForGood program.

#Impact: Twitter is a platform that gives every user a voice and has acted as a catalyst for social change around the world. As a fellow, you’ll have a direct impact on a platform that millions of people use every day.

Qualifications

  • You’ll need a keen interest in Twitter and ideally, proficiency on the platform.

  • Reasonable fluency in technology and a passion about the power of communications to change the world for the better.cbvcbfcbv  

  • Knowledge of Keynote, PowerPoint, and other presentation programs.

  • Strong interest in technology and its impact on society; either experience in tech policy (research) or as a practitioner (worked in a tech platform in the social sector, enabling change on the ground)

  • Languages: English, Hindi, and fluency in 1 or more regional languages

  • Understanding of caste and religious issues in India, and how free speech is impacted by offline realities

  • Experience of working with Human rights groups will be an added advantage

  • The ideal candidate will be highly organised, disciplined and self-driven with guidance. Attention to detail, professionalism and completion of tasks is key.

  • Strong written and oral communications and interpersonal skills.

  • A sense of humor.
