Our Graduate Development Programme  

Our 24-month Graduate Development Programme (GDP) provides you with a structured learning environment to help you become a well-rounded consultant and accelerate your career.

The GDP starts with a formal induction, giving you the opportunity to start building your internal networks and deepen your understanding of Turner & Townsend and your service area.

On joining you will be provided with a structured development plan which introduces you to the key business, technical and commercial competencies graduates need to succeed at Turner & Townsend. This gives you the necessary tools to manage and monitor your personal and professional development and progress. Throughout the programme you will be partnered with a Graduate Development Manager who will provide support and guidance to ensure you are on track.

As well as ‘on-the-job' learning, you will benefit from technical and behavioural training, providing you with the knowledge and skills to support you in your personal development. Alongside this you will be given the opportunity to pursue professional qualifications with organisations such as RICS, APM, CMI, IMEA, ICE and CIOB (depending on your technical discipline).

The GDP provides:

  • A platform to enhance knowledge and gain first-hand experience; 
  • A plan to support and capture your learning and development needs and achievements; and,  
  • The tools to track and report your personal development.

Construction Design and Management

The CDM Team has a wealth of knowledge and experience in eliminating and managing risks associated with construction projects from initial feasibility, survey investigation through to design, construction, and safe access & maintenance of completed assets. You will assist in the delivery of project-related tasks, such as carrying out initial site visits, requesting, reviewing & identifying gaps in the survey information, scope gap on appointment of specialist consultants, reviewing the design development at each design stage to ensure design and construction risks are eliminated or reduced to their lowest manageable level.

Workplace safety

Our Safety team will expose you to a variety of experiences at operational, programme or project levels, focussing on workplace safety competences including:

  • Health & Safety Inspections - You will be guided on how to carry out spot check inspections capturing unsafe behaviours/conditions as well as evidence of good practice in real time, whether that is work being undertaken by employees or contractors on site.
    Facility Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Statutory Compliance - You will be involved with assurance activities requiring often complex, statutory SHE requirements to be met by our clients and helping them properly and effectively manage this requirement across our client's real estate assets both in self-managed and outsourced facility management situations.
  • HAZOP Support - Our experienced specialists will support your understanding of hazard and operability (HAZOP) techniques that can be applied to either new or existing systems, whole or parts of a facility, and can be applied at every phase of a project's development.
  • Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Data Management and Analysis - Our team will develop your skills to help our clients transform their SHE data to delivering meaningful, timely and proactive intelligence that informs decision making by a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Behavioural Safety Understanding and Improvement - Our team will help you develop the competence to undertake people-based assessment to understand the status of attitudes and behaviours towards safety (and wider SHE) at all levels across organisations, programmes or major projects.

Fire Safety

We have an experienced Fire team who provide insight into risk and human behaviour, and analysis to our clients to stay at the forefront of fire engineering and legal compliance. During your time with the Fire team, you will develop your skills in providing strategic advice to clients, fire prevention through specialised fire safety design, construction supervision, inspection and risk assessment.

Quality Management Systems

Our quality team carry out quality strategy, management systems and certification planning, development and implementation. They will support you develop the skills to undertake a gap analysis to ascertain whether quality strategy and management systems currently in place meet not only ISO standards but more importantly the client's aspirations as envisaged in their masterplan. Including the drafting of quality management plans.

You will be involved in procedures review, development, roll out and support of quality processes, checking that these are communicated as part of the procurement/tender process to establish standards which contractors need to comply with and be measured against.

You will also experience the following:

  • Continual improvement in both quality behaviours and culture
  • Quality performance monitoring, assurance and audit 
  • Contractor / supplier quality assurance / oversight, checking the competency of contractors / supplier safety management systems to include design
  • Integrated SHEQ management, providing synergy between the different safety, health, environmental and quality principles being applied on the project and there is no conflict in the prioritising of principles between disciplines

Health & Safety Training – Our Training team utilise competent and practising health and safety professionals to deliver our training and our trainers are actively working in the industry as well as providing training. You will have the opportunity to be part of developing and delivering training courses to our clients. You will be part of the journey positively influencing our clients behavioural and safety culture through the training solutions bespoke to our clients’ requirements.

During the programme you will receive training and support to develop your skills alongside your preferred route to become a chartered professional of the Institution of Occupational Safety, Institute of Fire Engineers or certified member of the Association of Project Safety.

Qualifications

  • 2:2 or above in undergraduate degree if you hold a RICS accredited Masters or construction related masters.
  • Right to live and work in the UK (we are unable to offer visa sponsorship).

In some regional roles being able to drive will be necessary due to the location of client offices.  Please also note this is not a remote role as we operate a hybrid working approach you will need to be willing and able to work in a Turner & Townsend office or a client site. 

To be considered for roles in the Defence arena you will need to pass both a Baseline Personnel Security Standard check and UKSV SC clearance – this process will initiated once you have accepted an offer and have indicated you are happy to go through these checks.  A summary of the checks involved can be found here.
