Internship program description 

An internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work related to a student’s field of study or career interest. An internship gives a student the opportunity for career exploration and development, and to learn new skills.  

As a participant of TOMRA Internship Program, you can develop individually. The program is multidisciplinary designated to build your career across TOMRA Food through establishing an excellent international network, as well as working on strategic and operational projects provides a solid basis for a successful international career. 

You will join dynamic teams to tackle exciting and varied projects during your assignments but also in joint team projects with other program participants. 

Job description  

At the nexus of hardware and algorithm development, the multi-disciplinary System Team specialises in developing, integrating, and validating the optical, electronic, and classification elements of Tomra’s prototype sorting solutions.  

At present, the Systems team has several development projects to which a candidate could contribute to, including but not limited to: 

  • Development of new imaging and illumination technology 
  • Development of Optical Alignment tools for production 
  • Development of sorting applications 
  • Software development and data analysis 

Qualifications

Bachelor student in applied physics, physics, mechatronics, electronic engineering 

Successful candidates should have one or more of the following skills/traits: 

  • Interest and familiarity with vision systems, optics, or spectroscopy 
  • Capable of basic programming, modelling, and data-analysis (Python/MatLAB) 
  • Interest in machine vision, feature extraction, and machine learning techniques 
  • Electronic and automation design and testing (e.g., Arduino, RPi, PLC) 
  • Scientific mindset/methodology (design of experiments) 
  • Knowledgeable in 3D design (CAD modelling and 3D printing) 
  • Familiarity with basic electronics and lab instrumentation. 
  • Good communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written)
