Are you a news junkie? Social media savvy? Do you love spotting a trend and thinking creatively about how you would produce news content for social media platforms? If so, we want to hear from you.

The Age is looking to hire a Social Media Producer/Journalist to join its digital news desk. Reporting to the Social Media Editor, the successful candidate will create and post content to third-party platforms while helping to deliver on The Age’s social media strategy.

This role is a full-time, permanent position and presents an excellent opportunity to join the best-read masthead in Victoria.

Key accountabilities:

  • Publishing to third-party platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok and Apple News.
  • Writing and sending push notifications.
  • Ideating, initiating, planning, producing and publishing editorial content and formats across existing and emerging social media platforms. This may include adapting existing news coverage into native social media assets as well as creating original content.
  • Growing and engaging The Age’s audience through social media.
  • Analysing performance data and contributing to strategy propositions.

Enough about us, let's talk about you.

  • You thrive in a breaking news environment and capably multitask multiple short-term tasks alongside longer-term projects. 
  • You have strong editorial judgment.
  • You can spot legal red flags and know what actions to take accordingly.
  • You are a strong writer and editor, skilled in visual design and have an eye for detail. Preferably, you will have at least basic video editing capabilities.
  • You have at least two years of journalism experience.
  • You are a team player, committed to organisational success. 
  • You are an ideas person, love the news and know how to get the best out of social media.
  • You are willing to work weekends.
