Job Description
*Applicants must be currently enrolled Columbia College and General Studies students.*
The Undergraduate Course Assistant (UCA) will support faculty who are teaching hybrid courses in spring 2021. (Hybrid courses include both teaching in-person and teaching online as part of the fundamental course design. Students should expect to be in-person for some, but not all, course components. Specifics of hybrid course formats will be established by each faculty member at the beginning of each course.) The UCA will support faculty during in-person classes, as well as supporting live streams through Zoom for remote students, and other in-person class components. The UCA plays a pivotal role in ensuring that hybrid classes are held smoothly, and promote a productive virtual learning environment. Students may not be enrolled in a class for which they are serving the UCA role.
Qualifications
- Provide technical support for the delivery of hybrid instruction, both through managing classroom camera feeds, as well as the support of remote students in Zoom.
- Trouble-shoot technology issues and request appropriate support as necessary.
- Direct online students to campus connectivity resources as needed.
- Monitor chat and raise/reaction functions in Zoom.
- Support faculty in small group activities for the class as needed, such as in laboratories
- Track attendance.
- Set up breakout rooms; visit breakout rooms to ensure proper functioning.
- Collaborate with faculty to identify appropriate ways to participate in breakout discussions.
- Assist with class session Zoom recordings and uploading.
- Other duties as assigned and appropriate, given course format and schedule
Required:
- Attend all class meetings in person (unless requested otherwise by the faculty member).
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks in a hybrid environment.
- Able to communicate professionally and appropriately with faculty and students
- Participate in Zoom and video kit training

- Applicants must be currently enrolled Columbia College and General Studies students
Preferred Competencies:
- Students should express their interest in a department when applying to facilitate a strong match between their work and the course.
- Familiarity with basic video editing and posting welcome.
- Previous experience as a research assistant or teaching assistant welcome.

Hours per week: Up to 5 hours per week for the duration of the class. A maximum number of 4 courses, i.e. 20 hours/week.
Compensation: $15.00/hour
