AGENCY DESCRIPTION 

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is a new office created under Mayor James F. Kenney. The primary duty of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion is to make recommendations over the long term that work to build a more inclusive City workforce related to race, ethnicity, disability status, gender, and sexual orientation by working with those in government and the private sector to increase opportunities for all who have suffered from discriminatory practices.

Job Description

The Office of LGBT Affairs was created to connect LGBTQ+ people with government services and to help to ensure that the services they receive are culturally competent. The primary role of the Executive Director of LGBT Affairs is to advise the Mayor’s Office and Philadelphia City Government on the needs of LGBT residents, to serve as a liaison between the LGBTQ+ Community and the City of Philadelphia, and to educate residents and the city workforce on the needs of the LGBTQ+ Community. This position reports to the First Deputy Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

Essential Functions: 

  • Serve as liaison between the City and region’s LGBTQ+ communities and the City;

  • Work with City departments, agencies, and offices to develop policies and procedures to promote the equality, well-being, and safety of LGBTQ+ people within the city, with a particular emphasis on the marginalization of LGBTQ+ people with intersectional identities

  • Advocate for the LGBTQ+ community within City government 

  • Manage and solicit advice from the Mayor’s Commission on LGBT Affairs

  • Support the growth and development of the City’s LGBTQ+ communities

  • Craft and facilitate trainings in coordination with the Director of Training

  • Execute data-driven, outward facing programs, initiatives, and events that impact LGBTQ+ people in Philadelphia

Qualifications

Requirements 

  • Minimum of two years working in community engagement field

  • Minimum of two years working in advocacy around LGBTQ+ issues

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, particularly with the LGBTQ+ Community

  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience in strategic planning and executing programs and initiatives

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including senior government officials

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision

  • Proficient in Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis

Additional Information

Salary: $80 - 90k/yr
