What you'll do

As a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in CERN’s Theory Department, you will develop and lead your own research project in a world-class environment for theoretical physics. You will collaborate with internationally renowned scientists, contribute to advancing our understanding of the fundamental laws of nature, and immerse yourself in a vibrant scientific community through seminars, workshops, and daily exchanges. Please note that fellowships are awarded following the selection of your project by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, with CERN acting as the host institution. This is a unique opportunity for you to expand your expertise, gain international experience, and accelerate your research career at the forefront of fundamental science.

Your Key Tasks

Additional Information

  • Employment Conditions:
    • Please note that fellowships are awarded following the selection of your project by the European Commission under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, with CERN acting as the host institution.

    • Due to resource and office-space constraints, the TH Department will be able to host only a limited number of research fellowships, and for this reason a preselection based on the scientific profile of the applicant's research will be made. If your application is selected CERN will support you in preparing your submission for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action.

Be sure to meet the eligibility criteria

  • By the EU application deadline, you have a PhD (or have already defended your thesis) in Theoretical Physics; and a maximum of 8 years of research experience from the day of the award of your PhD degree. 
  • You comply with the EU mobility rule: you must not have held a contract with CERN (eg. USER, COAS, Fellow, Project Associate…) for more than 50% and more than 12 months in the last 36 months before the EU call deadline. Candidates coming from other Swiss institutes may apply.
  • You have a good proficiency in English.
  • Please pay attention to the additional criteria and requirements for this specific position and mentioned above.

  • A brief research statement summarising what you would like to achieve with the postdoctoral fellowship hosted at CERN (half a page)
  • A list of your most important publications, indicating your particular contribution
  • Priority will be given to applicants who will express their interest by the application deadline, although late applications might be still supported depending on the number of requests received
