Job Description

Position Summary:

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

Bantrel has an exciting opportunity for Civil/Structural and Electrical Engineering students to support the Jansen project this summer. Reporting to the discipline lead Engineer, you will support the Jansen project remotely from either Calgary, Edmonton, or Toronto. Please note that remote working is temporary while COVID restrictions are in place. Should our offices reopen during your work term, you will be expected to finish the remainder of the term in-person at your local Bantrel office.

Duties & Responsibilities (may include and are not limited to):

  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete project specific engineering deliverables:
    • Engineering lists
    • Procurement packages
    • Modeling and design using the latest industry software and tools
    • Design Deliverables
  • Become knowledgeable with engineering design and practical applications, regional codes and standards, various engineering design tools and applications, and the HBJV’s quality procedures.
  • Work collaboratively in a multi-discipline environment to deliver the best solution for our clients.
  • Assist senior engineers and designers with their responsibilities including but not limited to checking engineering deliverables, attending design reviews, and quality reviews.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in either a Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering program at an accredited university.
  • Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community.
  • Interest in engineering design and large complex projects.
  • Previous work experience will be considered an asset.
  • Technical experience with design calculations, modeling tools and software, ability to use data-centric design tools, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) will be preferred.
