Job Description

Organization
The Chief Electrician reports to Chief Engineer.

Authority
Delegated authority by the Chief Engineer to execute assigned responsibilities.
The ETO and Chief Electrician are never away from the ship at the same time. The Chief Engineer shall always be informed if one is away from the ship.
Functions and Responsibility
The Chief Electrician functions and responsibility shall include, but not be limited to:
▪ Responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the electrical plant and associated electrical systems throughout the ship in compliance with regulations and approved work procedures.
▪ Ensures that all electrical equipment and machinery on board the ship, such as elevators, fire alarm systems, electric motors and alternators, control systems and all associated systems are properly operated and maintained according to the applicable regulations and international standards.
▪ Must be present in the Engine Control Room during manoeuvers, drills and emergencies.
▪ Must work in close cooperation with the Chief Engineer to ensure that all waste treatment and environmental systems within the department are operated and maintained according to the international regulations and up to environmental policies and standards.
▪ Read and understand Chief Engineers standing orders.
▪ To keep the Chief Engineer informed of matters relating to the ship’s electrical installations.
▪ Monitor the P.A. system, speakers used onboard.
▪ To assign tasks to the Assistant Electrician and verify that tasks are executed adequately.
▪ Short and long-term planning of service, maintenance and repairs of electrical installations.
▪ Timely submission of requisitions for electrical spare parts and supplies to the Chief Engineer.
▪ Recording of surveys of the electrical installation.
▪ Participate in routine inspections with the Chief Engineer.
▪ Familiarize himself with regulations and work procedures pertaining to tasks to be executed.
▪ Daily updating of work completed, spare parts used, and remaining stocks.
▪ Testing and control of alarm systems, fire detection, and external communication loudspeakers.
▪ Monitor performance of TV’s and DVD players’ in guest cabins.
▪ To assign support in connection with shows, lectures, presentations, etc.
▪ Participation in functional tests, as required by Chief Engineer.
▪ Control of hydraulic power pack – watertight doors.
▪ Automation, engine and control rooms.
▪ To always use the correct PPE equipment provided.
