Job Description
The Paint Foreman controls the surface texturing, sandblasting, priming, and commercial-grade chemical coating of all raw steel frames and panel assemblies. This position dictates the workflow through environmental prep bays to establish durable corrosion protection on every building system. The Paint Foreman is accountable for the surface preparation, sandblasting, priming, and commercial-grade coating of all structural steel and exterior panel systems. This role ensures the modular PDC buildings possess the industrial-grade corrosion resistance required for harsh field environments before moving out to the construction yard.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following list of responsibilities is not all inclusive, additional projects and/or tasks may be assigned to meet operational needs. MCG retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position should operational needs warrant.
- Crew Leadership: Manage a specialized team of Paint Leadmen, sandblasters, and industrial spray painters, establishing tight scheduling to match work shop and construction yard staging.
- Surface Prep & Coating Control: Monitor and verify sandblast profiles, wet film thickness (WFT), and dry film thickness (DFT) to ensure coating specifications are met.
- Environmental & Safety Oversight: Enforce strict compliance regarding hazardous material handling, respiratory protective equipment (PPE), and spray booth ventilation systems.
- Specification Review: Read project coating schedules to ensure custom paint formulations, colors, and mil-thickness levels exactly match the client's engineering requirements.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge/Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in industrial sandblasting, commercial airless spray applications, and multi-part epoxy coating systems.
- Proven competence utilizing specialized coating gauges (DFT/WFT tools) and verifying substrate quality.
- Experience managing paint crews and executing strict chemical environmental protocols safely.
Preferred Experience
- NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) or AMPP coating inspector certifications.
- Familiarity coating heavy structural machinery or modular metal utility enclosures for offshore or coastal environments.
Success Measures
- Consistent compliance with technical dry film thickness (DFT) metrics without runs, sags, or pinholes.
- Zero safety or environmental compliance infractions related to chemical waste or booth emissions.
- On-time processing of frames and panels, preventing chemical cure delays from pausing the assembly lines.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work inside active spray booths wearing full fresh-air respiratory hoods and protective suits.
- Frequent overhead spraying, reaching, bending, and handling industrial spray lines under pressure.
- Ability to pass mandatory annual pulmonary function tests and respirator fit examinations.
