With Macca’s being one of the most well-known brands across the globe, it goes without saying that we get a lot of attention in the press. The Corporate Relations team work hard to protect the reputation brand and ensure communications in the media and within the company; are appropriate and on target. An exciting opportunity has become available to support these proactive and reactive communication strategies and to operate as a key connector inside the business. Not for the faint hearted, this position calls for an enthusiastic and organised PR or communications professional who is able to work to tight deadlines and truly get their hands dirty!

What can you expect on a day-to-day basis?

  • Responsible for assisting in the development of proactive, positive PR to drive awareness of McDonald’s news and brand stories (incl Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia)
  • Writing and distribution of press materials, key messages, Q&A documents
  • Provide strategic counsel to leadership and key functional departments regarding message development, media briefings, internal announcements, emails and ad-hoc support
  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, online influencers and key internal stakeholders
  • Lead the implementation of the internal communications plan, working with the global internal communications team to understand best practice and leverage global resources
  • Manage McDonald’s Australia’s intranet and external corporate platforms (e.g. LinkedIn)
  • Support the management of agency partners
  • Support franchisees with media and issues management communications at a local level
  • Primary responsibility for monitoring and measurement of traditional media and social media
  • Support Corporate Relations’ issues and crisis response activities
  • Coordination and management of internal team meetings, schedules and communication calendar
  • Support Government Relations team to engage with local, state and federal stakeholders

Your Keys to success:

This position calls for a clear and concise communicator who is not afraid to speak in front of a crowd, or develop external relationships with media contacts. Exceptional skills in key message writing and stakeholder emails are an absolute must. You will also be a proactive thinker; one who loves going that extra mile to ensure that no stones are left unturned when working with staff and the leadership team.

A tertiary qualification in PR/Comms is important; however if you have studied a similar field; then we still want to hear from you! Your resilience, tenacity and demonstrated experience in a similar position will see you push to the front of the crowd. To get us REALLY excited you will have had 3-5+ years of communications experience either within a PR agency, in-house, or as a journalist.
