Job Description

This position is responsible for the safety and productivity of all production employees staffed on designated shift.  This is a hands-on role and will mostly operate various pieces of equipment.  Additionally, this position is accountable for ensuring that production scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and within all quality parameters and for participation in both the hiring and performance management processes.

The employee in this position will perform the following specific tasks and job duties and any others reasonably assigned by the Manager/Supervisor or his/her designee.

  • Ensure the safety and productivity of all employees assigned to designated shift
  • Ensure security of facilities during designated shift hours
  • Enforce all safety and processing procedures
  • Enable effective communications between management and operators
  • Train new employees and coach existing employees
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with 5S protocol
  • Investigate and report all incidents (spills, accidents, poor performance)
  • Manufacture and pack products as necessary
  • Suggest and implement cost-saving ideas
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates

Qualifications

Required Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Quality Control
  • Intimate operating knowledge of all available processing equipment and processes
  • Ability to motivate others to meet demands established by the schedule
  • In depth understanding of established L J Smith’s values and strategy
  • Basic understanding of computers
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Basic math skills

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the daily tasks and job duties bulleted above are as follows:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Two years of wood working experience preferred
  • Former team lead experience preferred
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Associate degree preferred
