Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise daily activities of all warehouse distribution functions in order to provide an efficient fulfillment of customer orders per organizational policies and procedures.

  • Schedule and assign warehouse employees and equipment to handle daily and receipts shipments efficiently
  • Manage the warehouse/distribution activities and employees ensuring communications are thorough, professional and timely with internal and external customers
  • Using judgment and the best interests of the company in mind, manage competing priorities between sales and operations that are transparent to the customer and support a team approach
  • Support the day to day needs of the operation with regard to order fulfillment, inventory movement, etc in a hands on fashion as necessary
  • Supervise the pulling and packaging of product to ensure accuracy and safe handling for delivery to customers
  • Supervise loading of all outbound shipments via LJS delivery vehicle, LTL or UPS to maximize efficiency and reduce cost
  • Adequately plan for and process product returned by customers via LJS delivery vehicle, LTL or UPS Maintain adequate stock of packaging material to ensure proper boxing and bundling of products for delivery
  • Supervise receipt of all inbound deliveries from suppliers verifying appropriate receipt, inspection and quality control prior to storage or shipment of products  
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and LJS customer service to resolve any discrepancies in shipments received
  • Inspect products from manufacturing to verify accuracy and quality control prior to storage or shipment of products
  • Investigate and reconcile causes for lost, damaged and/or incorrect shipments and make adjustments in processes and in the system as necessary
  • Ensure inventory location accuracy goals are met which includes support of location management and the cycle counting program in coordination with Operations Manager
  • Review metrics related to site performance for continuous improvement opportunities and develop visual management tools to aid in communications with site employees
  • Work with Inventory Control Specialist and review the warehouse inventory to ensure functionality in layout and capacity in order to adequately meet safety and organizational requirements
  • Provide assistance as required to the Inventory Control Specialist for cycle counts
  • Supervise and participate in maintaining a clean and organized storage and packaging area, including facility disposal storage containers located both inside and outside building
  • Supervise and maintain appropriate maintenance and cleaning requirements for packaging equipment, lifts and delivery vehicles
  • Enforce policies regarding security and safety in order to maintain a safe working environment
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the Operations Manager immediately
  • Assess training needs of warehouse employees and arrange or provide training to ensure
    efficiency in warehouse operations
  • Participate in the hiring process by reviewing credentials, conducting interviews and making recommendations
  • Evaluate employee performance and conduct performance reviews
  • Maintain ability to operate delivery vehicle and packaging equipment as needed for employee coverage in the event of vacation, sickness or shortage
  • Ensure compliance with DOT rules regulations appropriate to our fleet and routes
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the daily tasks and job duties bulleted above are as follows:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Ability to operate stand up reach and sit down lift trucks
  • Ability to operate a non-CDL delivery vehicle up to 26’ in length and 26,000 GVW
  • Knowledge of the sales cycle and ERP system from order entry through shipment that allows for timely and efficient identification of underlying issues and appropriate corrective action
  • Proficiency in: Word, Excel, Outlook, UPS Worldship and prior experience with a fully integrated ERP system
  • Must be able to work under pressure and prioritize workload to meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead, direct, coach, support and delegate as circumstances require
  • 1 to 3 years prior experience in supervising a warehouse/distribution operation
  • Post – secondary education and/or training in warehousing and distribution is preferred

The physical requirements of this position are as follows:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.  Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Physical labor such as lifting and walking required on a regular basis
  • Position may require periods of continual standing and bending and the ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds occasionally and 70 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone and communicate clearly and concisely via written means
