The idea for a natural foods cooperative in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis’s Lakes district was first considered in 1975, by a small group of neighborhood residents interested in having access to organic, local and natural food. After a series of planning meetings and initial fundraising, a small space was secured and the new co-op opened on March 12, 1976. At the end of Linden Hills Co-op’s first fiscal year, $101.69 in profit was divided among the twenty-four founding members.

In the nearly 40 years since then, Linden Hills Co-op has moved and expanded its offerings four times while remaining the neighborhood’s primary grocer—“big enough to meet your needs; small enough to meet your neighbors.” With a full service deli, great selection of locally made and locally raised foods, many choices for different dietary needs, and a sunny indoor dining area, the co-op serves as a community gathering place—-with groceries.

Job Description

I. CUSTOMER SERVICE

A. Greet customers,smiling and making eye contact.  Assistcustomers with questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring themto others when necessary.  Offer suggestionsfor purchases and ways to prepare products.

B. Help customersplace and pickup special orders.  

II. CASHIERING

A. Check outcustomer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices, PLU's and departments.

B. Call for back-upas needed so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.

C. Bag customerpurchases.  For those needing assistance,offer to carry out groceries or call for help if available.

D. Close outregisters following established procedures. Balance cash drawer at end of shift.

E. Refer unresolvedcustomer questions or problems to customer service desk or Floor Coordinator.

F. Promotemembership and receive membership payments.

G. Inform customersof specials or upcoming events

III. DEPARTMENTMAINTENANCE

A. Keep checkout,and storage areas in clean, orderly condition: dust shelves, clean up spills and other hazards, sweep and mop floors asneeded, take out trash and recyclables, remove boxes.

B. Alert FloorCoordinator to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers or other emergencies. 

IV. Perform othertasks assigned by Front End Manager. 

V. Attenddepartment meetings,  storewide meetings,and training as scheduled.

Qualifications

Ability to handle multiple demands and stay calm. Experience serving the public.Abilityto project friendly, outgoing personality. Familiarity with natural foods. Organized, accurate, pays attention to detail. Willing to work at least one weekend day.

Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Position is part-time with full-time potential.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
