The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Job Description
The Laboratory Technician I plays a key role in the Laboratory Operations team. By working closely with others, they help accomplish the Operations Team’s goals to support product manufacturing and release at LGC’s Alexandria site. This role involves manufacturing laboratory consumable products, performing instrument validation, assisting Quality Control efforts related to these tasks, and contributing to similar activities at the Alexandria site.
The Laboratory Technician may be asked to prepare protocols, reports, summaries, and give oral presentations of results. The Laboratory Technician is encouraged to know the scientific background and literature related to their projects. Their work will concentrate greatly on product quality and consistency. It will involve collaborating with colleagues from various departments and working with laboratory instruments and consumables produced at the Alexandria Site.

Essential Functions:
- Perform Laboratory Processes: Complete laboratory processes as part of the Laboratory Operations team to produce consistent, high-quality products for internal and external users. These tasks must be carried out accurately and according to strict methodologies to meet user requirements and the standards of LGC’s Quality Management System.
- Document and Present Results: Accurately record experimental procedures and subsequent results. When required, interpret results and present details of processes and important data to senior team members.
- Product or Instrument Chemistry Validations: Conduct required chemistry test procedures for validation of instrumentation prior to sale.
- Assist in Quality Control Procedures: Support Quality Control procedures for consumable manufacturing efforts as needed.
- Manage Laboratory Supplies: Assist the department manager in maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies used by the Lab Operations team.
- Maintain Laboratory Equipment: Conduct necessary routine inspections to ensure laboratory equipment operates efficiently. This may involve weekly or monthly observations and carrying out fundamental instrument upkeep tasks. Support the department manager in guaranteeing all instruments follow calibration and preventive maintenance timetables.
- Follow Laboratory Safety Practices: Observe laboratory safety policies and work with the department manager and Safety Manager to introduce new safety procedures as needed.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Respond to the needs of the organization/staff when requested by management.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific field
- 0-2 years of related post-degree laboratory experience
- Strong organizational, documentation skills, and careful attention to detail.
- Responds as requested to address important initiatives and special projects, and is able to work independently and collaboratively when needed.
- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and experience using a variety of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Promotes an environment of strong customer service, both internally and externally.
- Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Use of a web browser.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific field
- 1-3 years of experience with liquid handling equipment and laboratory manufacturing processes.
Additional Information
The customary salary range for this position is:
Minimum pay rate: $23.00 USD per hour
Maximum pay rate: $38.00 USD per hour
The salary range provided covers the minimum and maximum amounts projected for this role. The base salary will be influenced by factors like experience, skills, and location.
The typical hiring range is from the minimum to the midpoint, depending on the candidate’s background. Pay is determined by several job‑related factors, including your skills, experience, education, and job-related qualifications.
