DRS Naval Power Systems (NPS) a multi-site operation responsible for $350 million of revenue with locations in Milwaukee, WI, Danbury, CT, Fitchburg, MA, and High Ridge, MO with an employee base of approximately 900 employees. NPS is structured into four Lines of Business: Power, Motors, Nuclear Instrumentation and Controls and Marlo Coil focusing on supporting the power and propulsion needs of the U.S. Navy. Job Description
Position Summary
Coordinate and monitor the procurement of materials, production schedules, and shipments of sales orders including directing the deliveries of materials and releases of orders to Manufacturing and maintaining proper inventory and costs throughout the order. Oversee the progress of orders from release until shipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Based on the MPS driven demand, selects and sequences available jobs to be run at specific workstations or machines
- Analyze bill of materials, sales orders, drawings, routings and procedures in order to ensure proper control and flow of materials.
- Maintain manufacturing build plans on a daily basis
- Maintain the run and set up times associated with each job / product / part
- Drive consistent communications between planning, project accounting, and project management for consistent project Material EAC’s and execution charts
- Review, recommend, and/or perform timely corrective actions required for all rejected material, new releases, and engineering changes.
- Inform the proper departments of any delays or problems, and ensure a timely response/corrective action.
- Authorize the procurement, delivery, and production release of materials
- Establish and set priorities on long lead and critical path items through purchasing, inspection, manufacturing and engineering.
- Attend design review meetings and production meetings to provide all departments with material status and shipping schedules.
- Oversee data accuracy of inventory, bill of materials, shop orders and material allocations.
- Ensure that the proper paperwork is maintained by all departments from time of release until shipment of orders.
- Forecast, schedule and ensure monthly shipments of sales orders
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, technical related discipline or equivalent
- 1-3 Years of experience in production planning and/or master scheduling
- Understanding of business processes and functional inter-relationships
- Background in production and material scheduling
- Skilled in the use of Excel, Excel Pivot Tables, Power Point, Word, as well as SharePoint
- Good understanding of MRP systems, KanBan, LEAN Manufacturing
- Candidates must be a US citizen and meet DRS security standards as imposed by DoD, including the issuance of any necessary security clearance by the US government within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
Additional Desirable Qualifications Skills and Knowledge
- A.P.I.C.S. certification, particularly CPIM
- Working knowledge of ERP system, preferably Deltek
- High energy, self-starter, task-orientated individual, willing to do what it takes to be successful
- Strong people skills, able to work well with individuals at all levels within the organization
- Good presentation and data organization skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, procedures, routings, QC and government procedures, military specs, and computer reports.
