Job Description

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain an appropriate operating model. This should allow any relevant parties to discharge their accountabilities, but deliver data, models and reports via a shared services model where this reduces costs, timescales or risks. Where data, models or reports cannot be segregated by division, agree an operating model for the joint delivery and oversight of results.

 

  • Direct the development, production and delivery of regular financial MI, accounting, statutory and regulatory information, plans and forecasts for LGRI (across all relevant bases) and the relevant legal entity boards, ensuring sufficient frequency, granularity, accuracy and insight to facilitate appropriate decision-making.

 

  • Work with internal audit, external audit and second line teams where appropriate to ensure that an appropriate financial control environment and culture is in operation for LGRI.

 

  • Ensure that all financial and related risks to which LGRI is exposed are identified, monitored and mitigated to deliver good customer outcomes at all times. 

 

  • Set the cost management agenda for LGRI and direct the divisional financial planning and forecasting processes for LGRI. Using commercial knowledge and experience, challenge Business Unit business plans to ensure they are affordable, deliver the anticipated business benefits and are consistent with business and Group strategy.

 

  • Lead the LGRI Internal Capital Model embedding effort, ensuring the establishment, maintenance and operation of appropriate organisational structures, processes and governance frameworks within which to manage and optimise risk capital.

 

  • Provide consolidated LGR reporting to Group as required. Provide data, models and reports to Retail Finance (in relation to annuities where relevant) as agreed with the CFO, Retail.

 

  • Set and articulate the strategy for the LGRI finance function, including any shared services..

 

  • Manage the production of all aspects of longevity and credit risk assumptions appropriate for LGRI for the purposes of pricing, financial accounting, reinsurance, product design and economic capital across the Group. Develop and deploy advanced and innovative longevity sciences, credit risk measurement, techniques and risk management, enabling competitive advantage to be gained through superior risk selection and understanding of longevity and credit risk.

 

  • Take the lead in all matters with regard to the leadership, management and development of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Deep technical knowledge of the life insurance and retirement industry including business models, products, distribution, operations and compliance regimes
  • Expert-level knowledge of financial reporting – both actuarial and accounting
  • Detailed understanding of the drivers of profitability and solvency
  • Ability to understand end-to-end capital modelling and reporting approaches and processes
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory regime, including PRA and FCA aims/goals with respect to the supervision of prudential and conduct matters 

Experience:

  • Significant experience in the life insurance and retirement industry
  • Working experience both within and external to L&G
  • International experience and perspective
  • Experience of regulatory and other external stakeholder interactions and relationships
  • Experience of risk management, including the development of appropriate risk culture
  • Experience of embedding modern capital reporting and model development
  • Board-level experience
  • Previous Life Office pricing is preferable, and knowledge of risk-based capital reporting, ideally with annuity exposure.
  • Working with a range of Reporting Measures.
  • International experience (either US, Canadian or European Union market) in either merger & acquisitions (“M&A”) or regulatory capital
