As Team Manager Packet Switched Core, you lead the management and innovation of a vital part of KPN’s mobile packet core network. Serving approximately 20 million mobile customers and IoT devices daily, this network is a cornerstone of the Netherlands' digital transformation
Job Description
In this role, together with the Department Manager, next to managing daily operations you will lead the innovation efforts within the Packet Switched Core Domain. You will ensure that your team of approximately 20 employees performs at its best. You translate department goals into tactical and operational plans, ensuring operational performance and securing the innovation roadmap. You oversee service quality, identify innovation opportunities, and participate in strategic projects such as automation and organizational improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strong stakeholder management and providing management information to support department goals.
- Identifying opportunities for innovation and anticipating industry developments by participating in strategically impactful projects.
- Prioritizing activities within teams in line with strategy, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of committed results.
- Ensuring a future-proof workforce through regular discussions with employees about their roles and personal development, securing knowledge and expertise within the department.
- Setting clear priorities after aligning with stakeholders, ensuring a focus on completing key objectives rather than spreading efforts too thin. This fosters an environment where employees can perform at their best.
As a Team Manager within the Mobile Core domain, your role is broad and includes:
- Managing your team members, their workload, results, and technical solutions.
- Collaborating with stakeholders and architects to shape the innovation roadmap.
- Overseeing operational management and supporting employees in handling incidents.
- Maintaining technical knowledge of the mobile core network and its services to challenge both employees and stakeholders.
- Managing suppliers in your domain.
- Reporting progress and KPIs to management and stakeholders.
- Ensuring the development of employees and preparing the organization for future developments.
- Motivating and connecting your teams.
- Switching easily between different levels of discussion and being an engaging conversation partner for stakeholders.
Qualifications
The Mobile Core is one of the fastest-changing parts of the KPN network. New technologies like 5G Standalone or Network Slicing are being introduced rapidly. This requires the implementation of new platforms, migration of existing functionalities, and phasing out legacy systems. Additionally, our mobile core network is vital for the Netherlands, and we always strive for maximum availability. It's a balancing act and a real challenge to ensure that innovation and availability do not interfere with each other and both always remain on top of our priorities.
We are looking for a leader who can guide our specialists effectively with a strong focus on quality.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Excellent communication skills, decisiveness, and empathy.
- The ability to gain trust from employees and stakeholders.
- Affinity with telecom networks and a passion for staying updated on market developments.
- Experience with Agile/DevOps and project-based work.
- The ability to adapt to technological changes and shifting stakeholder landscapes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience as a line manager in a technical environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills in both Dutch and English.
- Experience in building & managing telecom networks and mobile network technologies.
- A people-first approach, with the ability to bring out the best in your team.
- Experience with Agile/DevOps, project-based work, or a combination of both is a plus.

- A gross monthly salary ranging from a minimum of € 5,742 to a maximum of € 8,865, depending on your work experience, based on a 40-hour workweek.
