Manager of GRants and Proposals, Institutional SUpport

Department:              Institutional Support, Office of the President

Reports to:                 Senior Director of Institutional Support

Status:                       Exempt

 

Summary:

The Manager of Grants and Proposals, Institutional Support is responsible for developing grant and sponsorship proposals to corporate, government and foundation entities. The manager will support development-focused written communications to a variety of stakeholders and manage grant reporting. In addition, he/she will coordinate with other departments within the Kimmel Center to ensure funder expectations are communicated and project results are reported in an accurate and timely manner.  The manager will directly manage relationships with foundation contacts as needed.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Institutional Support and President and CEO of Kimmel Center to create grants and proposals.
  • Prepare grant applications, to secure funding from foundation, corporate and government sources including narrative proposals and budgets.
  • Create visually compelling corporate proposals with information that is customized per each corporate prospect.
  • Support strategic priorities through research to identify and qualify funding opportunities from foundation, corporations and government sources
  • Oversee a portfolio of foundation prospects and donors to maintain open communication about organization’s activities.
  •  Work closely with Programming, Education, Marketing, (PIFA) Festival, Finance and Facilities Operations staff to strategize, identify fundable projects and develop grant proposals and grant budgets for those projects.
  •  Assist in completing time-sensitive research requests as needed, with the Coordinator of Research and Data Systems.
  • Develop and maintain procedures for proposal preparation and submission.
  • Submit accurate, timely grant reports according to grantor deadlines.
  • Under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Institutional Support, manage reporting timeline and tracking system for grants received, and prepare and distribute on-going progress reports to grantors.
  • Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Strategy and Development for foundation and government campaign-related requests and applications specific to long-term goals of the organization
  • Prepare correspondence and coordinate the submission of appropriate donor-related materials to institutional prospects, in coordination with the Development and Marketing Departments.
  • Communicate the fulfillment required per grantor in collaboration with Coordinator of Institutional Support.
  • Collaborate with Coordinator of Institutional Support to track and complete proposals
  • Support the Sr. Director of Institutional Support with other projects as assigned.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field.
  • Three (3) years of development or related experience. 
  • Grant writing or related writing experience required, preferably in the arts.

 

Knowledge/skills/abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.  Writing sample will be requested.
  • Creative individual with demonstrated ability to create visually compelling proposals
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in past writings
  • Ability to meet deadlines while handling multiple grant proposals required.
  • Knowledge of and comfort with preparing project budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting gift officers in securing institutional grants and sponsorships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and with varied personalities across organization, as well as in team settings.
  • Flexibility and patience a must, along with excellent internal communication skills, reflecting a customer-service orientation.
  • Knowledge of regional and national funding sources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2010; Tessitura and/or Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with online grant application processes preferred.
  • Must be available to work some nights/weekend for performances and events.
