Student Assistant, IT Operational Excellence

  • Part-time

Company Description

Are you the one who brings structure when things get complex, and who walks over to ask why something has stalled rather than waiting for an email? Then you might be the Student Assistant we are looking for!

At JYSK, our Operational Centre of Excellence helps teams across IT and the business units it supports work in more stable and measurable ways. We are looking for a Student Assistant for 15 hours a week to work with data and stakeholder coordination at JYSK Head Office in Aarhus.

You start as soon as we have found the right candidate. For the first six weeks you work about one day a week, then 15 hours a week over two days, with at least one of them at the office. We start with a three-month contract and hope you stay at least 12 months. We are flexible around exams and holidays.

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

You work directly with the Manager of IT Operational Excellence and get real responsibility from day one. Within your first three months, you will have delivered your first piece of reporting that the IT leadership team uses.

Furthermore, we offer you:

  • Insight into how IT operations and continuous improvement work in an international retailer with more than 3,700 stores in 49 countries, more than 35,000 colleagues and an IT organisation of more than 400 people
  • Room to shape your own role - this is a new area we are designing, and what you lean into will help define it
  • A dedicated mentor, regular sparring and a network across IT that few students get
  • Hands-on experience with ITIL, Lean, structured change management and the agile framework SAFe, which is how our teams work
  • The option to use real cases for projects or your thesis
  • Flexible hours that fit your studies and exams
  • Engaged colleagues, a lunch programme with healthy and varied meals, and Friday bars

WHAT YOUR NEXT JOB WILL BE ABOUT

You help us turn improvements into results, and most of that happens in conversation with people. Your tasks and responsibilities in the job include:

  • Data and insight: Collect and analyse data, build dashboards, and explain what the numbers show and how our initiatives are working.
  • Following up on improvement actions: Keep track of our actions, check with the owners that they are delivered, and find out why when something stalls.
  • Making larger initiatives easy to join: One example is our CMDB, a map of how applications and servers connect. You create templates, plan the steps with the teams and help remove what blocks them.
  • Working with people: Talk to colleagues instead of hiding behind the screen. Join a stand-up, send a Slack message or walk over, and make it easy for people to help.

WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING

You do not need experience. We are looking for a new colleague who:

  • Is curious about data and what it tells you, with Excel as a good starting point
  • Enjoys bringing structure to messy tasks
  • Likes talking to people and following up until things get done
  • Is motivated to learn, not least how IT runs a large retail business
  • Is enrolled in a relevant higher education programme with at least 12 months of studies left
  • Communicates fluently in English. Danish is a plus
  • Can be at the office in Aarhus at least one day a week
