Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Managing Consultant with a strong background in contaminated land, environmental remediation, pollution incident investigation, and environmental liability to lead complex projects across the insurance, commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and public sectors.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership on environmental losses, pollution incidents, contaminated land assessments, remediation projects, and environmental liability claims. Working closely with insurers, loss adjusters, brokers, solicitors, corporate risk managers, and property owners, the role will involve investigating environmental damage, determining cause and extent of contamination, developing remediation strategies, and providing expert technical advice to support claims and risk management decisions.
This role requires a commercially focused environmental professional with proven consulting experience, strong technical expertise, and the ability to manage key client relationships.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage environmental consulting projects, including contaminated land investigations, environmental risk assessments, remediation projects, pollution incident response, and environmental liability assessments.
- Support insurers, loss adjusters, legal professionals, and corporate clients with environmental and occupational health-related insurance claims investigations.
- Conduct and oversee environmental and occupational hygiene assessments, including workplace exposure monitoring, indoor environmental quality investigations, and health risk evaluations.
- Design and manage sampling programmes for a range of environmental and occupational hazards, including asbestos, lead, mould, respirable crystalline silica (RCS), dust, fibres, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), Legionella, indoor air quality contaminants, soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and hazardous substances.
- Provide technical advice on environmental compliance, occupational health risks, contamination issues, and remediation strategies.
- Prepare and review technical reports, risk assessments, remediation plans, and expert advisory deliverables.
- Manage client relationships and act as a trusted advisor to insurers, property owners, industrial clients, legal professionals, developers, and public-sector organisations.
- Support business development initiatives through proposal preparation, client meetings, presentations, and networking activities.
- Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and financial performance while ensuring high-quality client service and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Hygiene, Industrial Hygiene, Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant consulting experience in environmental consulting, occupational hygiene, contaminated land, environmental risk management, or related fields.
- Experience designing and overseeing environmental monitoring and sampling programmes involving soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air quality, and hazardous substances.
- Strong understanding of contaminated land assessment, pollution incident response, remediation, and environmental liability management.
- Experience supporting insurers, loss adjusters, legal professionals, or corporate clients on environmental claims, liability investigations, or property damage matters.
- Working knowledge of relevant UK regulatory frameworks, including environmental, occupational health, and hazardous materials legislation.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong client relationship management and business development skills, with experience identifying opportunities and contributing to revenue growth.
- Excellent technical report writing, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally as required.
Preferred
- Chartered status or membership with a relevant professional body such as BOHS, IEMA, CIWEM, Society for the Environment, Geological Society, IOSH, ICE, or CIH.
- Professional qualifications in occupational hygiene, industrial hygiene, asbestos, environmental management, or health and safety.
- Demonstrated experience conducting and managing environmental and occupational hygiene investigations, including sampling and risk assessments for asbestos, lead, mould, respirable crystalline silica (RCS), dust, fibres, VOCs, Legionella, and indoor air quality contaminants.
- Experience supporting environmental liability, pollution, construction, property damage, or occupational exposure claims within the insurance sector.
- Experience providing expert advisory services, litigation support, or technical input to legal proceedings and dispute resolution matters.
- Existing relationships within the insurance, legal, loss adjusting, environmental consulting, or occupational hygiene sectors.
- Demonstrated success in winning work, developing client accounts, and supporting the growth of a consulting practice.
