Company Description

We are recruiting a QA/QC Welding Specialist to support the construction phase of a major LNG development project in Mozambique. This site-based rotational role will be embedded within the Owner's quality team and will provide direct oversight of welding and fabrication activities performed by EPC contractors and subcontractors.

The successful candidate will ensure all welding operations are executed in accordance with project specifications, international standards, approved procedures, and company quality requirements. The role requires strong experience in welding inspection, welder qualifications, NDT coordination, welding documentation review, and management of welding-related quality issues across a large-scale construction environment.

Job Description

  • Review and comment on contractor welding quality plans, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), WPSs, PQRs, and WQRs.
  • Witness and verify welder qualification tests and ensure only qualified personnel perform project welding activities.
  • Monitor implementation of approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and compliance with welding parameters.
  • Coordinate and oversee NDT activities including RT, UT, MT, and PT examinations.
  • Review NDT results and ensure compliance with applicable acceptance criteria and project requirements.
  • Verify traceability of welding consumables, materials, and weld joints throughout fabrication and installation.
  • Investigate welding non-conformances and support resolution of NCRs, TQs, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor welding quality performance, repair rates, and defect trends, recommending improvement measures where required.
  • Interface with construction, piping, mechanical, and inspection teams to ensure effective quality control execution.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly welding quality reports including weld status, NDT progress, and repair statistics.
  • Verify adequate welding inspection coverage is maintained by contractors and subcontractors.
  • Promote safe welding practices and ensure compliance with project HSE requirements, PTW systems, and welding-related hazard controls.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Welding, Metallurgical, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in welding QA/QC within Oil & Gas, LNG, Petrochemical, or major industrial construction projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of dedicated welding inspection and quality control experience on large-scale EPC/EPCIC projects.
  • Certified Welding Inspector qualification such as AWS CWI, CSWIP 3.1/3.2, or equivalent.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, ISO 9606, API 1104, and other relevant welding standards.
  • Proven experience reviewing and approving WPS, PQR, WQR, welding quality plans, and inspection documentation.
  • Experience witnessing welder qualification tests and managing welder certification programs.
  • Good understanding of NDT methods including RT, UT, MT, and PT, with the ability to review and interpret inspection results.
  • Experience managing welding NCRs, root cause investigations, corrective actions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of welding consumable control, material traceability, and welding documentation systems.
  • Strong reporting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Previous LNG, refinery, gas processing, offshore, or major energy project experience is highly desirable.
  • Portuguese or French language skills would be advantageous.
