Job Description
Position Overview
The Senior Manager, Academic & Society Engagement will shape the future of da Vinci surgery by working directly with surgical societies and academic medical centers to drive formal endorsements, standardized training, and best practices. Leading society engagement, you will drive guideline inclusion, training requirements, and procedural standardization, leveraging clinical data, peer-reviewed research, and faculty advocacy to establish da Vinci surgery as a recognized standard of care. Collaborating across Clinical Marketing, Product, Digital, Customer Training, and Academic Key Accounts, you will align academic and society strategies to drive training standardization, faculty mentorship, and sustainable procedural growth.
Amplify da Vinci 5 Adoption and Validation in Academics
- Shape the future of surgical education: Drive da Vinci 5 curriculum integration with resident benchmarks, publish training protocols, and scale best in class training with key faculty.
- Establish evidence-based training standards: Scale validated strategies for Force Feedback, Case Insights, and Dual Console training across our Academic Top 100 Academic Medical Centers.
- Strengthen academic chair and chief networks: build success stories and collaborations with Department Chairs, Division Chiefs, and Program Directors to accelerate da Vinci 5 multi-specialty adoption and research.
Drive Society Champions of da Vinci Surgery
- Shape the future of surgical standards: Lead engagement and tradeshow execution with priority academic societies to drive guideline inclusion, training requirements, and procedural standardization for da Vinci surgery.
- Secure formal society endorsements: Establish da Vinci as a recognized standard of care by integrating clinical data, surgeon best practices, and peer-reviewed research beyond the Intuitive tradeshow and into their scientific programs.
- Modernize residency and fellowship curriculum standards: Engage and empower society leaders and da Vinci champions to drive resident curriculum standardization, benign procedure adoption, and society guideline changes.
- Lead strategic society analysis across clinical marketing: Research each society’s membership demographics, financial health, and leadership structure to identify high-value partnerships and advocacy opportunities that advance da Vinci surgery.
Accelerate Academic Faculty Adoption and Procedural Growth
- Elevate early practice alumni as thought leaders: Position early practice academic medical center alumni as da Vinci champions, elevating them as key influencers and thought leaders.
- Develop academic faculty KOLS who can shape Program Director belief and effective programmatic adoption of da Vinci as part of academic tripartite mission.
- Empower the next generation of surgeons: Integrate KOLs into local peer-to-peer events and key sessions at Intuitive 360, CONNECT, and society symposia to drive belief and adoption of da Vinci.
- Elevate impact of peer-to-peer events in academic residency programs: Drive Journal Clubs, training bootcamps, remote case observation watch parties to build confidence in benign procedures and acute care.
- Amplify academic success stories: Highlight case studies from across the country on resident training best practices, benign procedure integration, and da Vinci 5 case studies in academia.
Strategic Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Clinical Marketing to develop tailored academic engagement strategies across specialties and medical societies.
- Regularly meet with Clinical Marketing to establish marketing standards and best practices that support the academic mission.
- Collaborate with US Clinical Marketing and Product Marketing teams to Expand cross-specialty adoption of da Vinci 5 and SP by integrating the latest advancements into academic strategies.
- Align academic and society strategies by collaborating with Academic Key Customer Directors and internal teams (Product, Digital, Customer Training, MSL) to scale best practices in faculty development, resident support, and benign procedural adoption.
- Lead academic program execution—such as the Intuitive CONNECT Academic Surgeon Leader (ASL) initiative, academic tracks at events, and ongoing webinars—ensuring measurable outcomes and continuous optimization.
- Optimize society-led training: Collaborate with Customer Training teams to enhance existing academic and society-led education programs with measurable learning outcomes.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Health Sciences, or related field required; advanced degree (MBA, MPH, or related) preferred.
- Minimum Experience: 12+ years of marketing, partnership, or program management experience in the healthcare or medical device industry, with a focus on academic, clinical, or society engagement.
- Expertise: Demonstrated success in forging strategic partnerships with academic institutions and/or professional societies. Proven ability to drive curricular development and educational initiatives in a matrixed environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, influence, and inspire stakeholders ranging from senior society leaders to residents and fellows.
- Analytical Skills: Proficient in market and data analysis; ability to translate insights into targeted strategies that support organizational goals.
- Project Leadership: Strong record of managing multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
- Travel: Willingness to travel for academic site visits, trade shows, society events, and other business needs.
