Job Description

This role is based in our 240 Blackfriars office.

Are you ready to shape the future of the semiconductor industry through insightful research and analysis? Omdia is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Principal Analyst to join our semiconductor research team within Research & Analysis (R&A). This role offers the opportunity to become a market expert in power semiconductors (discretes and modules) and their key applications, contributing to reports read by the leadership of some of the world’s most influential companies.

As a Principal Analyst, you’ll lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive databases, generate market forecasts, and provide qualitative analysis that drives decision-making for our clients. You’ll also have the chance to build your profile as a thought leader, represent Omdia at industry events, and collaborate with customers and internal teams to deliver impactful insights.

What You’ll Be Doing

Data Development and Maintenance

  • Build and maintain detailed databases for semiconductor products through background research, industry relationships, and estimations where data is unavailable.
  • Log assumptions and methodologies clearly to ensure transparency and consistency.

Market Forecasting

  • Use your industry knowledge and data to develop accurate market forecasts.
  • Present and explain forecasts and the reasoning behind them to clients and team members.

Industry Scoping and Analysis

  • Stay up to date on industry and technology changes to refine databases and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with managers and other teams to produce consistent, high-quality analysis across the semiconductor market.

Customer and Specialist Support

  • Provide one-on-one expertise to customers on technology and market trends.
  • Support client inquiries by offering deeper insights into forecasts, reports, and other research.

Report Writing and Thought Leadership

  • Write qualitative analysis to support data and forecasts, creating reports that explain the impact of technology and market trends.
  • Produce written insights and press materials to highlight and promote research findings.
  • Attend trade events to develop supplier relationships and present key market findings.

Sales and Business Development

  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop leads, maintain relationships with existing clients, and support subscription renewals.
  • Identify opportunities to evolve and enhance the research offering as your expertise grows.

Profile Building and Representation

  • Represent the Omdia brand at industry functions and events, building your reputation and Omdia’s within the semiconductor sector.
  • Engage with senior leadership from leading companies and fast-growing start-ups to share insights and build relationships.

Consulting and Custom Research

  • Support consulting projects by performing primary and secondary research, defining deliverables, and presenting findings in client-specified formats.

Qualifications

  • Curiosity and Industry Knowledge: A strong desire to understand the semiconductor market, stay updated on technology changes, and analyze the forces driving the market.
  • Relationship Building: Comfortable reaching out to industry sources, developing relationships, and collaborating towards common goals.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to think outside the box and find innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in MS Excel for data building, manipulation, organization, and pivot table creation.
  • Time Management: Proven track record of prioritizing and delegating competing tasks effectively.
  • Writing Skills: Ability to write clear, structured, concise, and insightful reports.
  • Client Interaction: Comfortable conducting interviews, presenting research, and developing commercial relationships with clients.
  • Analytical Thinking: Use assumptions and logical thinking to create estimates, scenarios, and forecasts.
  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM subject preferred.
    • 3–5 years’ experience in the semiconductor or engineering-related industry preferred.
