Job Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Legal Counsel, you provide legal guidance that enables, protects, and supports H&M Group across Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam by advising on regulatory matters, negotiating and reviewing agreements, and ensuring compliance with global legal standards. You assess risks, manage contracts, and deliver clear legal support across the business, collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders to secure the best possible outcome, both legally and commercially.

You will:

  • Negotiate, draft and review various agreements, including lease/tenancy agreements for H&M Group stores, from a pro-business perspective with minimal risk exposure to H&M.
  • Conduct judicial enquiries, due diligence, and risk assessments; proactively advise on legal issues/disputes related to expansion and/or consolidation, and handle and settle disputes.
  • Support tendering processes and assist Sales Market Controllers/Account Managers in corporate matters, including drafting corporate documentation and governance policies/guidelines.
  • Set and implement routines and ways of working for the execution, handling, and administration of contracts.
  • Provide support on marketplace and partnership opportunities for online/digital projects; support the data privacy team with regulatory guidance; assist in research on legal issues with cross-border elements in business/consumer laws relevant to the industry.

 

WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH

As a Legal Counsel, you'll work closely with various internal stakeholders across the organization, and external parties including landlords, local authorities, and government agencies.

This is a full-time position, reporting to the Controlling Manager.

 

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for people with…

  • Experience in an in-house legal function in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, ideally in a consumer business with digital and/or leasing experience.
  • Ability to coach and guide stakeholders, translating complex legal requirements into clear, practical guidance, with exceptional communication skills to confidently present to senior stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Comfortable with decision-making, even in ambiguous circumstances and under tight timelines; strong understanding of risk assessment and ability to articulate associated consequences to decision-makers.
  • Experience with an international law firm or a multi-national corporation is highly preferred; experience with retail environment and leasing would be a plus.
  • 5 to 8 years of law firm and in-house legal experience; admitted to the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction, or equivalent legal qualification.
