WHAT YOU’LL DO

We are looking for a motivated Software Engineer - Java to build and maintain scalable, reliable backend services. You will contribute to feature development, collaborate across teams, and follow engineering best practices to deliver high-quality software in a cloud-native environment.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions that meet the needs of our organization and clients. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, develop efficient code, perform rigorous testing, and deliver robust software products. The ideal candidate has a strong background in software development, a passion for technology, and a drive for continuous learning and improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting product features.
  • Translate business and functional requirements into efficient technical implementations.
  • Contribute to API design, implementation, and documentation with a focus on usability and scalability.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following established coding standards and design principles.
  • Develop and execute unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
  • Debug and resolve issues across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Optimize application performance, including database queries and service response times.
  • Work with logging and monitoring tools to ensure system health and troubleshoot issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, QA, DevOps) to deliver features end-to-end.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and contribute to deployment and release improvements.
  • Follow secure coding practices and contribute to application-level security.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

At H&M, you’ll be part of the Delivery & Returns team which is responsible for offering different delivery and return options globally to all H&M customers, ensuring great post purchase experience. Our products include Click & Collect, Online Return In Store (ORIS), Digital Return Portal. We are part of Digital Transactions area, which is responsible for complete checkout experience in 81 markets.

Our team includes 15+ engineers spread across Bangalore and Stockholm, collaborating closely with engineering manager, product managers, business experts, designers and data analysts. We are agile with a strong focus on outcome.

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for people with

  • 3–5 years of backend development experience with Java (Java 18, Spring Boot 3).
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including deployments and basic security practices.
  • Strong knowledge of Entity Framework and ORM concepts.
  • Solid understanding of one or more database technologies, for example, PostgreSQL or SQL Server.
  • Experience of building and consuming RESTful APIs following OpenAPI specification.
  • Understanding of scalable application design and performance optimization.
  • Experience with GitHub and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Familiarity with logging, monitoring, and debugging techniques.
  • Good understanding of containerization (Docker) or messaging systems
  • Working knowledge of clean code principles and software development best practices.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with .NET Framework and C# would be a strong advantage, though it is not mandatory.
  • Efficient usage of Github Copilot or similar AI agents to increase productivity will be a plus.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Experience conducting code reviews, identifying areas of improvement, and provide constructive feedback to maintain code quality and consistency. 
  • Familiarity in backend testing with a focus on ensuring the reliability and performance of backend systems.  
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies   
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
