Dropworks, located in Boulder, Colorado has created a fast, flexible and easily automated platform for performing biological assays in self-contained flowing droplets. Our tool will be widely used in research labs to find treatments and diagnostic markers for cancer and infectious disease. We have just closed a major round of funding and are on a growth trajectory. Job Description
As a key member of our research and development team you will be leading the development of alpha prototype instruments and working on a future generation of devices. You have already accomplished great things in completing your PhD, have experience working with microfluidics – now you are ready for a new adventure. What you'll be doing
• Leading alpha site deployment of prototype instruments
• Communicating with clients and contributing to the overall engineering product strategy
• Assisting in the conception, development, fabrication of test prototypes, including sample metering, small scale mixing, fluid routing, and emulsion formation
• Developing test approaches and instrumentation to characterize prototypes for microfluidic and droplet performance
• Constructing and executing controlled experiments to optimize processes
• Presenting clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues as well as providing recommendations based on technical results
Qualifications
What you'll bring to this position
• PhD in biological engineering, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, or a related discipline
• At least 1 year of post PhD professional experience related to microfluidics and opto-electronic instrumentation
• Understanding of the design of mechanical, fluidic, and optical systems including selection of OEM and custom components
• Technical competency with tools such as Autocad, Solidworks, and Comsol
• Proficiency in Python, LabVIEW, or C gets our attention
• Exceptional communication skills; written and verbal with an innate ability to listen for understanding and ask insightful questions
• A passion for research that will lead to commercialization – driven toward a revenue producing outcome
• Desire to work collaboratively in a fast paced environment wearing multiple hats - after all that’s what it takes to rock it in a startup!
