Head of Clinical Research Interface
- London, UK
- Department: Clinical
- Office: London
Genomics England successfully led the world-leading 100,000 Genomes Project, which compared and analysed individuals’ genetic codes to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
We're now accelerating our impact, working with the NHS to further develop and embed genomic healthcare and research in Britain. Our next chapter involves working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
With a large and expanding genomic dataset, we are passionate about harnessing the maximal benefit for our participants and the patients of the NHS. To do this, we are developing and scaling up processes at the clinical-research interface – connecting healthcare and research. This is an opportunity to help drive and shape that clinical-research interface, to harness synergies at the intersection of healthcare and genomic research in a newly created role as Head of Clinical Research Interface.
You'll design and manage processes at the heart of the clinical research interface connecting healthcare and research, including:
o Clinical collaboration: connecting clinicians and researchers
o Diagnostic Discovery: returning potentially diagnostic variants identified by researchers to the NHS
You'll also have the opportunity to work with tech and digital colleagues to drive the creation of technical platforms and pipelines, engage and coordinate the Genomics England academic community, collaborate closely with Genomics England clinicians and the ethics team to navigate complex proposals from researchers, and as the clinical research interface work expands, to build a team that will enable the scaling and evolution of this vital area that links together research and healthcare.
Skills & Experience for Success
We anticipate that the ideal candidate will:
o Be skilful at working proactively across teams and building effective relationships across a wide range of expertise, including clinical, scientific & tech.
o Have excellent interpersonal communication, across different professional and patient groups, that inspires confidence and trust
o Have a proven ability to think creatively to solve problems and find solutions in complex areas (such as the overlap between research and healthcare)
o Be experienced in designing and optimising processes, communicating business requirements that support technology and digital experts to build technical and process solutions that achieve the desired result
o Have clear understanding of clinical, research, ethical and governance frameworks and data protection
o Be enthusiastic to learn and develop in this very cross-cutting role, particularly in areas with less direct experience
It's also desirable that you have active experience of science / healthcare communication and experience of interacting with, teaching or training individuals from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
