Genomics England successfully led the world-leading 100,000 Genomes Project, which compared and analysed individuals’ genetic codes to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
We're now accelerating our impact, working with the NHS to further develop and embed genomic healthcare and research in Britain. Our next chapter involves working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
Due to growth, we have a newly created role available as a Bioinformatics Operations Manager. Our Logistics team facilitate the journey of genomic data through our Bioinformatics Pipelines and return analyses to clinical users in the NHS and research users. They enable patients to receive their genomic results to potentially diagnose and treat their rare diseases, cancers and more.
As a Bioinformatics Operations Manager at Genomics England, you'll be accountable for the optimal day to day running of the technical operations, in accordance with ISO 15189 standards, as well as looking after the activities of the Bioinformaticians who facilitate the process. You'll be responsible for overseeing case flow through the pipeline, ensuring functional issues are escalated and fixed appropriately. You'll also be constantly reviewing and seeking to improve operational performance and efficiency, meeting both current and future bioinformatics business requirements, preparing forecasts and promoting a quality culture.
Skills & Experience for Success
We anticipate that the ideal candidate will have experience in:
- Managing a function in a data-heavy environment, such as Healthcare or Bioinformatics, or a complex IT setting with a high volume of data throughput.
- The day-to-day management of a high performing team
- Reporting and presenting and using Management Information solutions
- Some quantitative data analysis in order to identify trends or bottlenecks
On a personal level, you'll be responsive, with a service mindset. You'll be able to understand competing demands, prioritise effectively and efficiently, be a true problem solver and a real team player.
