Genomics England successfully led the world-leading 100,000 Genomes Project, which compared and analysed individuals’ genetic codes to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
We're now accelerating our impact, working with the NHS to further develop and embed genomic healthcare and research in Britain. Our next chapter involves working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
Due to growth, we have openings for Bioinformaticians to join our ground breaking organisation. As a Bioinformatician in our Logistics team, you'll facilitate the journey of genomic data through our Bioinformatics Pipelines and return analyses to clinical users in the NHS and research users. You will be enabling patients to receive their genomic results to potentially diagnose and treat their rare diseases, cancers and more.
You'll ensure the smooth operations of the pipelines and troubleshoot problems when they occur by overseeing the processes and intervening where necessary. You'll inform the development squads of any updates needed, or issues that arise, produce reports and monitor case progress. You'll work in accordance to our various standards (such as ISO15189, IVDD) to ensure that everything we do is in line with best practice.
Skills & Experience for Success
We anticipate that the ideal candidate will have experience of running large datasets through NGS analysis pipeline. You'll be proficient in Unix and basic command line skills, have experience with things like Github/GitLab, Confluence, JIRA and the various databases available for variant interpretation. You should be confident running bash or Python scripts and ideally be familiar with running jobs on High Performance Computing clusters (HPC).
