Genomics England successfully led the world-leading 100,000 Genomes Project, which compared and analysed individuals’ genetic codes to help diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
We're now accelerating our impact, working with the NHS to further develop and embed genomic healthcare and research in Britain. Our next chapter involves working with patients, doctors, scientists, government and industry to improve genomic testing, and help researchers access the health data and technology they need to make new medical discoveries and create more effective, targeted medicines for everybody.
Data is at the heart of our organisation and underpins all we do. As a Data Architect here, you'll be responsible for the architecture of that data, working to support medical device accreditation, deploying database technologies and being accountable for the full lifecycle of architecture development and governance.
Responsibilities in role:
As a Data Architect at GEL, you will be responsible for ensuring that all products are underpinned by a clear data architecture, whilst ensuring proper use of secondary data, making sure that all models and data flows are documented to support medical device accreditation.
You will be working alongside our Infrastructure & Solution Architects to ensure that the appropriate database technologies are deployed to support the business need, contributing to our data modelling standards and taking accountability for the full lifecycle of architectural development & governance as part of a cross functional squad delivery model.
You must know & understand the meaning behind our virtues of Empathy, Integrity, Focus, Connection, Speed, Curiosity, Impact and embody them in all aspects of your role.
Skills and Experience for Success
You must possess experience of data architecture within a life science, genomics or healthcare setting, with a background of data modelling, including ER modelling and Data flow diagrams. A knowledge of genomic data structures including VCF’s and associated meta data such as tiering – demonstrated experience of working in this environment - is highly desirable.
Ideally you will have proven leadership skills and practical experience of data architecture across complex range data database technologies including relational, nonrelational data, unstructured object storage, cloud database technologies. Strong communication skills with the ability to establish the needs of technical & business stakeholders is a must.
Data innovation will be at the forefront of everything you do, with a great understanding of the impact of emerging trends on the organisation. You will also be experienced in data modelling, with the ability to produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas.
