Thermal Engineer – System Engineering is responsible for total vehicle thermal management system for passenger, powertrain, power electronics & energy storage system. The Engineer will work with component development engineers, test engineers and suppliers to develop a total vehicle thermal management system to become the benchmark of automotive industry. The main role of Thermal Engineer – System Engineering is define functional and performance targets, supply change strategy, resolve issue and optimize thermal system for weight/cost while satisfying program milestones.
Responsibilities
- Lead with the team of thermal component Design Release Engineers (DREs) to develop an overall thermal architecture, concept and component selection
- Interface with the team of powertrain, power electronics, vehicle integration, body structure, energy storage system engineers to assure thermal component packaging, installation and optimize functional environment.
- Benchmark competitive thermal components, to define functional target and engineering specifications
- Create proof of concept demonstrations for integrated thermal management systems
- Work closely with suppliers on design evaluation and validation of the thermal management system hardware in order to meet product specification and requirements
- Coordinate and conduct hardware testing in the lab to verify and validate thermal management system hardware functionality and reliability
- Share and present work to cross-functional teams and executive leadership
- Lead engineering meetings with vehicle integration engineering and vendors.
- Responsible for meeting vehicle development milestones.
- Develop and execute tests for analytic model verification to real world results.
- Manage simulation results and alignment with CAD
- Provide input in the creation of component specification, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents where analysis plays a central role.
- Manage refrigeration cycle, refrigerant plumbing, mounting, compressor, condenser design; 1D, CFD and CAE modeling; prototype development and testing; systems engineering fundamentals; and plumbing, compressor, condenser manufacturing are required
- Assist in the development of comprehensive design verification and validation activities, including writing test procedures, environmental testing fixtures and data acquisition systems
- Working experience with automotive systems design, packaging and assembly requirements
- Present to various levels of management with different depth of expertise
- Describe development proposals and problem descriptions
- Supervisory experience desired
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited University.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with specialty in refrigerant cycle, thermal dynamics & fluid mechanics
- Good working knowledge refrigerant, coolant, airflow, injection molded parts, brazed components and high voltage components.
- Hands-on experience of refrigerant components, sensors, valves and fluid transport component design is a plus
- Thermal system component, vehicle level testing experience is preferred
- Experience in heat pipe application is a plus
- 5~10 years of working experiences in the thermal management system area for HEV,PHEV and EV.
- In-plant and/or program/vehicle launch experience
