POSITION SUMMARY - We are seeking an experienced data & technology professional to join the Asset Data Foundation team inside the Data & Analytics department. The vision for Asset Data Foundation is to accelerate and increase the value data users create via descriptive and predictive analysis. Asset Data Foundation does this by addressing pain points related to finding, accessing, understanding, cleaning, and preparing data for value-add analysis. The Tech Lead will grow Data & Analytics capacity to build Asset Data Foundation for data users across PG&E. The initial users / customers of Asset Data Foundation are asset strategists, electrical engineers, and data scientists who develop models to understand wildfire risk, and use the models to make day-to-day operations and long-term asset management decisions to reduce wildfire risk in California. This Tech Lead position will have a major impact in reducing wildfire risk in California, improving the quality of life for all Californians.
This Tech Lead position helps define the Asset Data Foundation’s technology strategy, decisions, and patterns. This technology and team leader is also responsible for mentoring Data Engineers and Full Stack Developers to ensure common understanding and guidance on how to implement the technologies chosen through hands-on and show-by-doing techniques. The Tech Lead plays an active role in the Data & Analytics Tech Lead Community of Practice, collaborating with other Tech Leads to discuss and align on technology strategy and execution. The successful candidate will have a passion for building and leading great teams and will be responsible for developing an environment where teams can be successful by removing roadblocks and fostering a culture of agility. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise with data product delivery on Public Cloud, including data acquisition, storage, metadata, lineage, modeling, security, and governance.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create and contribute to technology decisions that are consistent with enterprise standards, architectures and strategies
• Contributes to the development of Data & Analytics procedures and standards
• Mentors a team of data engineers and full-stack developers including leading-by-doing and hands-on delivery support
• Collaborates with product team and uses technology depth to develop data product architectures
• Creates system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to the team of developers
• Instrumental in leading technology direction of data & analytics products that will provide value for the customers and communities PG&E serves
• Support ownership of key data & analytics platforms, provides and manages operational support and maintenance for system applications; may provide 24x7 support
• Enable defined SLAs and metrics through foundational technologies
• Fosters a culture of Agile delivery, including coaching and teaching
• May be required to organize, schedule, coordinate and lead communities of practice or other working groups, both temporary and ongoing, to accomplish assigned objectives.
• Develop understanding of business drivers and financial levers to provide delivery decision support
• Partners with leaders to drive high performance in their lines of business
• Ensures compliance to standards/regulations and governance processes
• Collaborates with other teams, leaders, other LOBs, and technology partners in the delivery and sharing of concepts to leverage across portfolios
Qualifications
MINIMMUM Education/Skills:
• BA/BS in Computer Science/ Information Systems, Business, Engineering, etc. or equivalent work experience. Relevant advanced degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 or more years of experience in programming/systems analysis or other related area required including at least 3 years in technical leadership role
• Excellent knowledge of data management principles, data acquisition and modeling, data warehousing, data lakes, business intelligence, metadata management, data security, and data & analytics governance
• Experience with AWS, cloud computing & database technologies, including evaluating platform and stack architecture along with knowledge of industry best practices
• Experience with software development methodologies and software engineering principles, with an emphasis on data related development techniques
• Strong leadership skills in the technology domain and a high level of drive, initiative and assertiveness, including up-leveling and mentoring developers.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of using common office productivity software
Desired Education / Skills:
• Experience with the entire application/API lifecycle and building at scale. Particularly in AWS (Kubernetes/Docker/Serverless, etc.)
• Excellent analytical and technical skills
• Experience leading Agile product teams
• Competency in building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. Soft Skills/Cultural Fit are a must.
• Knowledge of program management theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
• Knowledge of principles, techniques, and procedures used for production and design of technology based equipment and systems as needed to perform at the job level
• Experience working in a highly regulated environment
