Job Description

We are looking for a promising Public Relations (PR) Associate to support the Senior Media Engagement Manager with various tasks relating to PR, Employee Advocacy and Marketing. Though you’ll be holding an entry-level position, your work will be instrumental in the development and execution of PR plans and strategies.

Our ideal candidate will be a creative PR or communications graduate, brimming with potential. A fervent interest in the field partnered with skillful writing and research skills are especially important to us. As our PR associate, you will play a significant role in helping shape and tell our story. You will be responsible for working closely with key stakeholders across the business, building media relationships quickly, and being responsible for the delivery of external communications, generating positive media coverage for our brand, and creating awareness of our products, services and subject experts. You will be working alongside the brand and content team in implementing, monitoring, and tracking digital PR efforts and owning these relationships.

You will assist in facilitating the smooth running of daily operations and the success of our PR efforts.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Together with the Senior Media Engagement Manager, develop and implement Fastmarkets’ PR strategy.
  • Manage the internal Media Contacts Database, reaching out frequently to the wider business to ensure it is up to date.
  • Manage media queries received through Fastmarkets’ media inbox.
  • Manage the PR Software to actively reach out to key media contacts and build relationships by cultivating relationships with influential print, digital, and broadcast journalists or thought leaders within our sector.
  • Work closely with our PR agency to secure media opportunities, share content and provide updates on corporate news to build Fastmarkets’ reputation and ensure effective media coverage.
  • Create opportunities for people with high credibility, such as our economists and analysts, to talk favourably about Fastmarkets.
  • Differentiate Fastmarkets from its competitors and conduct competitor analysis on an ongoing basis and track Fastmarkets’ gains in market share over time.
  • Draft or oversee the creation of press releases, distributing them to targeted media.
  • Create content for social media that relates to the Fastmarkets brand as well as LinkedIn Life.
  • Assist in educating Fastmarkets employees on how to best use social media channels, such as LinkedIn, and how to optimize them for PR.
  • Collate, analyse, and report on media coverage. Update the Press Room on our website accordingly.
  • Reporting of PR efforts as it relates to media outreach, media mentions and social media.
  • Establish Fastmarkets as the go-to PRA for media comment.
  • Together with the Senior Media Engagement Manager, monitor and manage the response to ‘crisis’ situations together.
  • Brief spokespeople within your organization on communicating with the media.
  • Arranging interviews and appearances for company executives.
  • Organise promotional events such as press conferences and oversee media attendees at our own events, organising press passes and interviews.
  • Update and maintain the intranet, The Hub.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, driven, and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced, successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.

Excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to write compelling copy are necessary.

Experience with PR reporting tools such as Cision, or similar.

Having an awareness of the PR significance of social media.

Strong interpersonal skills for developing relationships with media representatives.

Excellent speaking and presentation skills and the ability to organize and plan PR strategies together with the tactics needed to achieve our ambitions.

Ideally, one to two years’ experience in public relations, either in-house or in an agency.

A proven track record of developing and delivering communication strategies is desirable, as is experience in working closely with journalists and responding to media requests.

An understanding of commodity markets and price reporting agencies are beneficial, but not required.
