Job Description

 

  1. Business Development
    • Develop and execute the Ocean Product business plan aligned with district and regional growth objectives.
    • Lead business development, retention, and strategic account growth initiatives in partnership with Sales and Account Management.
    • Identify and develop new revenue opportunities within existing customers and the local market.
    • Maintain executive relationships with key customers and actively participate in strategic customer reviews and sales calls.
    • Lead the district Ocean commercial strategy, including RFQs, pricing, bids, and contract opportunities.
    • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with carriers and service providers to enhance competitiveness and service offerings.
    • Support new business transitions and act as the Ocean Product subject matter expert for customers and the sales organization.
    • Provide market intelligence and product leadership to drive customer retention, market share growth, and revenue expansion.
  2. Team Management & Leadership
    • Build and maintain an effective organizational structure that supports growth, succession planning, and accountability.
    • Develop a strong Team Leader ("#2") capable of independently managing daily Ocean Import and Export operations.
    • Recruit, onboard, coach, and retain high-performing employees while promoting a strong employee experience.
    • Conduct performance reviews, one-on-ones, goal-setting discussions, and career development planning.
    • Create development plans and ensure employees receive the training required for future growth and succession.
    • Lead change management, productivity initiatives, and continuous improvement programs across the department.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, compliance, collaboration, and alignment with Expeditors' cultural values.
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and escalation support while delegating daily operational execution to the Team Leader.
  3. Financial Management
    • Develop and manage the annual departmental budget in alignment with district financial objectives.
    • Own the department P&L and deliver revenue growth, profitability, productivity, and expense-control targets.
    • Conduct regular financial reviews and implement corrective actions to address performance gaps.
    • Analyze customer, trade lane, and service profitability to support strategic commercial decisions.
    • Ensure effective management of accounts receivable, credit risk, cash flow, and customer payment performance.
    • Oversee financial governance, including billing integrity, intercompany accounting, contracts, and compliance with company policies.
    • Monitor key financial indicators and drive actions that improve freight yields, productivity, and operating margins.
    • Protect and grow the long-term financial health of the Ocean Product by balancing revenue growth, customer diversification, and cost management.
