Job Description
Scope of position:
We are seeking a proactive and safety-focused Yard Safety Coordinator to oversee the safe and efficient operation of our warehouse yard in Ellenwood, GA. This role is critical to maintaining a secure environment for drivers, staff, and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and supporting smooth logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Driver Oversight: Monitor truck loading/unloading to ensure adherence to safety procedures.
- Hazard Reporting: Identify and report unsafe practices or conditions to the Health & Safety team and warehouse management.
- Communication: Maintain real-time communication with drivers and operations staff via radio and yard/dock door systems.
- Equipment Maintenance: Track and document preventative maintenance for dock equipment.
- Yard Patrols: Conduct regular yard walks to identify and address safety concerns.
- Trailer Security: Ensure trucks are properly secured using restraint systems or wheel chocks; manage trailer seals.
- Documentation: Check trucks in/out using the visitor management system and verify driver paperwork.
- Physical Tasks: Operate dock plates and doors; lift, push, and pull as needed.
- Cleanliness: Maintain yard cleanliness and organization.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in warehouse or yard operations preferred.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
- Effective communication skills with drivers and team members.
- Physically capable of performing manual tasks (lifting, bending, standing).
- Familiarity with dock equipment and restraint systems.
- Basic recordkeeping and documentation skills
Working Conditions
- Outdoor yard environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Fast-paced, physically demanding role.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and warehouse safety standards.
- Experience with visitor management and dock door systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
