OVERALL OBJECTIVES:
As a Business Analyst you will play a key role across the Qualitype/eLIMS Forensics programme, supporting the delivery of Business Requirements across Forensics Case Management, DNA LIMS and Expert Reporting workstreams for an active user base of approximately 300 users. This role within a complex, regulated transformation programme and will work closely with operational SMEs, programme leadership and distributed IT delivery teams across the UK, Europe, nearshore and offshore locations.
The role is focused on full BR support across the programme lifecycle: requirements elicitation, process mapping, requirement decomposition, traceability, change control, testing readiness and business acceptance support. You will help translate forensic operational needs into clear, structured Business Requirements and User Requirements that can be taken forward by solution architects, functional analysts and development teams. The role requires strong collaboration with both business and IT teams to ensure requirements are high quality, aligned to process, and sequenced ahead of development cycles.
Main responsibilities:
· Lead and support structured requirements gathering across multiple programme workstreams, ensuring clarity of scope, ownership, version control and traceability.
· Work with operational SMEs, process owners and IT teams to define, refine and maintain Business Requirements and supporting User Requirements in line with agreed standards.
· Develop and maintain process maps, requirement packs and supporting documentation to ensure requirements are grounded in real end-to-end business processes and regulatory needs.
· Challenge, clarify and decompose complex requirements, including identifying variants by workflow, lab, geography or customer where required.
· Partner with solution architects, functional analysts, developers and testers to ensure requirements are understood, feasible, sequenced correctly and translated into deliverable outcomes.
· Support requirement arbitration, prioritisation and change control, including identifying duplication, overlap, dependencies and out-of-scope items.
· Work ahead of the development cycle to keep the backlog prepared, support sprint readiness and reduce delivery risk across concurrent workstreams.
· Contribute to test readiness by helping define acceptance criteria, supporting UAT preparation and ensuring business requirements can be validated effectively.
· Facilitate workshops, including face-to-face sessions where needed, to build alignment across operational and IT stakeholders and drive timely decisions.
· Ensure requirements and process outputs reflect the needs of a regulated forensic environment, including quality, security, compliance and accreditation considerations.
· Act as a key interface between the programme’s business users and the wider IT Solutions organisation, supporting coherent delivery across UK, European and delivery centre teams.
Specific skills required:
Technical knowledge:
- Strong and proven background in Information Technology.
- Experience as a Technical Writer/Business Analyst/Functional Analyst
- Experience in writing Functional Specification Documents
- Experience in creating Business process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or the project team.
- Capacity to conceptualize creative solutions, document and sell solutions to all levels of the organization, including senior management;
- Ability to solve practical problems, define cause and effect, map dependencies in the process
- Organized, detail-oriented, analytical, curious, with demonstrated troubleshooting and investigation skills;
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask with organization and manage time effectively.
- Strong customer focus and ability to manage (internal or external) client expectations;
- Contribute to process mapping in a range of functional dependencies, including operations, purchasing, inventory, distribution, equipment, data management, quality systems and facilities
- Ability to work independently with limited oversight, in a complex global environment;
You should have:
· Proven experience as a Business Analyst in complex technology delivery programmes, ideally spanning multiple workstreams and business teams.
· Strong experience eliciting, documenting and managing Business Requirements and User Requirements, with disciplined attention to scope, ownership, prioritisation and traceability.
· Demonstrable capability in process mapping, specifically BPMN 2.0 and translating operational workflows into structured requirements and acceptance criteria.
· Experience working in regulated, quality-critical or operationally complex environments where compliance and auditability matter.
· Confidence working with senior stakeholders, operational SMEs and technical teams, with the ability to challenge constructively and drive clarity where requirements are ambiguous or incomplete.
· Strong facilitation skills for workshops, interviews and review sessions, including the ability to build alignment across different business units and geographies.
· Experience supporting development teams through backlog preparation, requirement clarification, change control and business acceptance activities.
· Experience of Azure DevOps, JiRa platforms for Management of UR’s, Backlog and sprint planning is beneficial
· Excellent written documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear requirement packs, process documents and structured supporting material to a high standard.
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across a programme with multiple parallel workstreams and interdependencies.
· Experience working with distributed delivery teams and collaborating effectively across UK, Europe, nearshore and offshore resources.
· Strong English language skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in forensic, laboratory, LIMS, case management or similarly process-intensive operational environments would be highly advantageous.
You will ideally hold a degree-level qualification in Business, IT, Science, Engineering or a related discipline, with a strong track record in Business Analysis within transformation or software delivery programmes. Relevant Business Analysis, Agile or process improvement qualifications would be beneficial.

- M.Sc., B.Sc. or equivalent in Information Technology or comparable field.
- At least 3 to 7 years in an IT environment (implementation if possible) preferably in an industrial or process-driven environment and ideally in the laboratory industry.
- At least 3- 6 years as a Business analyst/ Functional analyst / Product owner/Technical Writer in an IT environment.
