Job Description
The team lead is responsible for providing technical support and analysis of Cosmetics products and disciplinary organization of the Microbiology Testing Laboratory. This role involves working in a deadline-based, high-pressure environment with ongoing projects for various clients.
General Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Leading the Microbiology team of Eurofins Cosmetic and Personal Care
- Organization of the lab and duties
- Monitor and manage inventory of supplies.
- Review and determine the status of quality documents, such as raw laboratory data, validation studies, logbooks, and calibration reports.
- Initiate and conduct deviations and out-of-specification investigations.
- Initiate and conduct Corrective Action and Preventative Action (CAPA) investigations.
- Training of new staff and ongoing training for team members
- Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures at all times.
- Perform equipment maintenance and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Performs review of data
- Ensure department cultures are maintained and viable for analysis.
- Conduct Microbial Limit testing using EP/BP/USP methods for samples.
- Perform Environmental monitoring of the Micro lab.
- Prepare samples for analysis.
- Evaluate and summarize instrumentation data in final reports.
- Perform tasks such as serial dilution, plating, and sub culturing.
- Assist in troubleshooting problem assays within the department.
- Verify that all samples are handled, stored, and delivered in a manner that maintains sample integrity at all times.
- Work with the JHSC to ensure all health and safety procedures are followed including accident investigations, etc.
- Communicate clearly and articulately to clients, management, coworkers, and staff. Ensure task delegation is clearly understood.
- Review applications, conduct interviews, and make hiring decisions for direct reporting positions.
- Manage laboratory equipment and consumables inventory, purchasing supplies when needed.
- Administer, direct, and document the training of assigned staff on job functions, all Quality-related issues, SOPs, methods, regulatory requirements, and lab policies and procedures applicable to area of responsibility. Meet regularly with staff to ensure that proper information flows in both directions and that personnel adhere to these requirements on an ongoing basis.
- Evaluate and approve or reject prospective and in-progress non-conformances (as exceptions) to standards (policies, procedures, etc.); investigate to determine the cause of retrospective non-conformance, determine and implement corrective action; follow up to ensure that the corrective action resolved the problem.
- Maintain an orderly, clean and safe work area and assist others in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
- Maintain a perpetual state of readiness and willingness to respond to the queries and needs of all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other related fields;
- Graduate degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other related fields would be a strong asset;
- 1-3 years of experience in microbiology-related industries.
- Proficient in operating instruments and equipment.
- Experience with a variety of routine and non-routine microbiology techniques, methods, and procedures.
- Proficient in data retrieval and interpretation of routine analysis or tests.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for instruments and methods.
- Ability to write lab reports.
- Familiarity with Health Canada guidelines; knowledge of USP, ACMPR, GMP, and GLP Proficient in data retrieval and interpretation of routine analysis or tests.

Additional Qualifications
- Must speak and write English fluently;
- Bilingualism is a strong asset;
- Experience working in a contract laboratory is considered an asset.

- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Technical Skills
Exceptional computer skills with a high level of competence with MS Office;
Working knowledge of Laboratory Information management Systems (LIMS)
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will be working in a laboratory environment where standing is required for greater than 50% of the time to work at the bench for analyses. Light lifting requirements of no more than 20 lbs. Evening and weekend shift work may be required.
