At esure we're building an outstanding environment for long-term ambitious research to flourish in. Our Lead Data Scientists are responsible for both the scaling out of MLOpsacross esure, measurement of commercial impact and the technical leadership & development of a high performing Data Science team.

We apply state of the art machine learning techniques to solve a variety of problems such as customer risk, lifetime value and retail pricing across diverse product portfolios. The team is central to our growth strategy with great support from senior stakeholders who are keen to drive a ‘start-up mentality’ for this function.

What you'll do:

Work across our business to scope out AI & ML opportunities alongside SMEs and work with the business to turn requirements into products in production

  • You will play a vital role in defining targets (both commercial and technical) for machine learning applications and establishing experimentation and measurement frameworks
  • We build models, lots of them! You will be a technical & thought leader across broad ranges of applied data science, from classical statistical methods to trees to NLP to deep learning
  • Understand complex data sources and where data is not available, create a plan to source it working with the Product Development team as appropriate
  • Foster and grow a culture of learning, collaboration and accountability within a commercially focussed technical team

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • You know what it takes to manage top tier data science talent and demonstrate tangible commercial benefits from data science

  • Experience of working in product roles and have conducted large scale A/B experiments
  • Familiarity with software engineering practice and working with APIs. You understand what it takes to get models into production
  • Deep knowledge of statistics, machine learning & associated paradigms. You will have to mentor and develop a team who have this!
  • This role will still have a hands-on element so you will be competent with writing production grade code and able to peer review and authorise the work of others
