Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Solution Architect who will be responsible for developing the architecture and technical direction of esure’s IT Applications, ensuring that the use of technology is aligned with the overall company direction and business strategy regarding applications, data and infrastructure. You will influence the activities of other IT teams to ensure that IT strategy and architectural goals are achieved through the wider virtual architecture team!

You will liaise with the business to align architecture strategy to business direction, whilst educating business users on the benefits of good design and service based architecture. Work closely with the Delivery Managers and Product Owners within IT to ensure that the agreed solutions are implemented according to the architectural design.

Day to Day:

  • Promoting the Application Architecture vision to various IT teams and the business.
  • Maintaining a picture of current application architecture and identifying and prioritising issues
  • Managing expectations of those who will always want to move more quickly to the bigger strategic picture
  • Ensuring buy-in of senior management and potential sceptics within IT, and overcoming objections
  • Identifying a clear path from ‘where we are now’ to ‘where we want to be’, given that these positions change
  • Preventing the proliferation of uncontrolled technology
  • Understanding and articulating to non-IT people the future direction of IT and how this might impact the business of esure. This will require excellent broad technical knowledge combined with good eye for business and an ability to communicate complex themes to a non-technical audience.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to think problems and solutions through clearly
  • Ability to grasp new concepts and relate these to business situations
  • Structured investigative and analytical skills required
  • Extensive experience in designing and building IT applications. Demonstrable evidence of working within the full system development lifecycle process preferably using agile methodologies.
  • Proven knowledge of, and previous exposure to, a wide range of technologies and the ability to relate those to the technology in use or planned in esure; AWS cloud technologies, Spring Boot, Oracle RDBMS, Linux, etc.
  • Able to understand at a detailed level how the various components of an IT infrastructure fit together. Able to articulate this in written and spoken words to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal and ability to influence and negotiate at all levels up to and including IT management team
  • Experience of an architecture framework and methodology such as TOGAF, Zachman, etc. would be a bonus
  • Experience of working in insurance or financial services sector would be bonus
  • Probably educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • AWS or Java certification is desirable.
