We are now seeking a VP Data & Analytics, reporting to our CSTO and will be responsible for defining the vision for Data & Analytics and coaching and leading a high calibre team. They will partner across the organisation to reinforce a data-driven culture and evolve the way the company operates to foster an analytics-first mindset. The VP of Data & Analytics will be hands-on in structuring and delivering value - creating a repeatable process that super charges the entire business - delivering profitable growth and innovation in conjunction with all lines of business.

Job Description

What will my role entail?

  • Serving as the strategic voice for data at esure the ideal candidate will work closely with the wider business, building consensus around a strategy that injects fresh thinking. They will identify and prioritise tactical and strategic opportunities to use data & analytics to drive value across the business.
  • Develop a multi-year roadmap of prioritised data & analytics initiatives that create new algorithms and models that deliver measurable competitive advantage. Ensure the organisation pursues the highest-impact opportunities.
  • Provide input into the analytics workbench that meets the analytical needs of the future, working closely with esure's Chief Technology Officer and technology function.
  • Recruit, empower, develop, and retain a high-performing data & analytics team to meet present and future needs of the business by increasing data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
  • Review and enhance data management practices and policies. Drive compliance with GDPR and other emerging rules, as well as consistency with esure's objectives and policies.
  • Identify areas of competitive differentiation that delivers value from governance and compliance activities.
  • Build a portfolio of data science use cases across the business. Launch MVP solutions to prove the value from data science, scaling what works and learning from what does not. Be a genuine contributor to the profitability and success of the business; build confidence through a track record of delivery.
  • Lead the data technology strategy, developing a roadmap that delivers strategic and tactical capability. Guide the organisation to make pragmatic decisions about the analytics requirements, end state data architecture and data technology.
  • Collaborate with other senior leaders across the organisation to deliver results.

Qualifications

You are a good fit for the role if you have the following:

  • Extensive experience in Senior management positions, leading through other senior leaders in a professional, technical environment.
  • Competent in building and motivating high performing teams.
  • Extensive relevant domain experience e.g. Data Science, Data Platforms, Machine Learning, Statistics, Optimization in real world contexts, running production tech.
  • Consistent record of developing production-ready analytical models solving a wide range of classes of problems in real world contexts ideally in Insurance
  • Strong understanding of statistics, structured/unstructured data analysis and predictive modelling techniques
  • Experience addressing underlying data availability / architecture / data model issues seen as a bonus
  • Track record of building and effectively leading teams of 20+ people.
  • A people leader who has set up, matured and managed data science talent
  • Experience in driving analytics use cases in the areas of pricing, customer journey and/or claims
  • Ability to immediately transfer previous experience in relevant domains to accelerate time to value.
  • Multi-industry expertise, particularly insurance
  • Ideally, worked in multiple industries in data science, analytics, or related roles.
  • Shown ability to translate organisational strategy into business plans and bring the team successfully on a change journey.
  • Hands on – able to roll sleeves up and do, as well as direct others.
  • Self-confident with a willingness to act – resilient with a bias towards experimentation, not set back by failure.
  • Demonstrable collaboration skills and ability to cut through contending requirements and priorities.

  • Prior exposure to financial services or insurance industry preferred
  • Experience of working in a regulated business
